Text of card

When Rain of Riches enters the battlefield, create two Treasure tokens. The first spell you cast each turn that mana from a Treasure was spent to cast has cascade. (When you cast the spell, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card that costs less. You may cast it without paying its mana cost. Put the exiled cards on the bottom of your library in a random order.)

Cards like Rain of Riches

Rain of Riches brings an intriguing dynamic to the realm of treasure-generating spells in MTG. Its closest kin is often seen in cards like Brass’s Bounty, which rapidly ramps up your treasure trove for each land you control. However, Rain of Riches provides a steady, albeit smaller, influx of treasure each turn, offering a persistent advantage rather than a one-time windfall.

Another card worth comparing is Revel in Riches, which not only produces treasure but could catapult you to victory under the right circumstances. While Revel in Riches can end the game if conditions are met, Rain of Riches offers a consistent output that doesn’t depend on your opponents’ actions. Spell Swindle must also be mentioned here, as it can turn the tide by converting an opponent’s spell into a source of treasure, with potential for a larger immediate gain compared to the drip feed of Rain of Riches. However, this is reliant on your opponent casting a costly spell.

Ultimately, each card has its place in a deck-builder’s arsenal. While some offer a burst of riches, Rain of Riches secures an ongoing resource, solidifying its position in strategies that favor a long-term setup for big payoffs.

Card Pros

Card Advantage: Rain of Riches offers a significant boost in card advantage. Casting this spell can replace itself in your hand and then some, ultimately netting you additional resources to take control of the game.

Resource Acceleration: The intrinsic value of Rain of Riches is heightened by its ability to ramp up your available resources. By granting you Treasure tokens, this card propels your mana resources, potentially allowing you to unleash powerful spells ahead of the usual curve.

Instant Speed: The instant speed nature of Rain of Riches ensures flexibility in gameplay. This aspect permits players to act reactively to the board state, holding back until the most opportune moment to maximize the impact of their strategic play.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: Rain of Riches calls for discarding a card, which can be a setback when your hand is already depleted.

Specific Mana Cost: Requiring both black and red mana, this card’s utilization is restricted to decks that can produce both colors reliably.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: With a mana cost that may be considered steep for its effect, players might opt for lower-cost alternatives that offer similar benefits.

Reasons to Include in Your Collection

Versatility: Rain of Riches offers a unique blend of ramp and draw power, making it an asset in a variety of deck builds. Its ability to accelerate your mana while replenishing your hand caters to multiple strategies, from aggressive to control setups.

Combo Potential: With Rain of Riches in your deck, you unlock new synergies, especially in strategies that capitalize on instant or sorcery spells. It can be the cornerstone of powerful spell-slinging combos, paving the way to outpace your opponents with unexpected maneuvers.

Meta-Relevance: In an environment where tempo and card advantage are crucial, Rain of Riches can provide the edge needed to stay ahead. Its alignment with current gameplay trends ensures it’s a timely and impactful addition to your arsenal.

How to Beat Rain of Riches

Rain of Riches is a potential game-altering spell in Magic: The Gathering that pilots itself distinctively amongst other ramp strategies. Unlike other traditional resource acceleration spells that offer an increase in mana, Rain of Riches takes a unique twist by sprinkling gold among players, setting a tone for both prosperity and peril. Its challenge arises as it benefits not just the caster but also the opponent, leveling the playing field with newfound wealth.

To overcome the equitable advantage Rain of Riches gives, players should lean towards strategies that exploit quick utilization of resources. Consider using instants that disrupt your opponent’s tempo or spells that allow you to capitalize on the sudden influx of mana before they can. Controlling the board with counterspells or removal as your opponent attempts to cast their newly funded spells with their treasures is key. Moreover, integrating cards that punish or deter mass treasure generation, such as stax effects or cards like Stony Silence, can negate the advantages provided by Rain of Riches, turning the tide in your favor.

In essence, when faced with the riches bestowed by this spell, smart utilization and disruption of mana are critical. Taking advantage of the momentary mana boost while inhibiting your opponent’s ability to do the same will be the cornerstone of turning Rain of Riches from a potential threat to an opportunistic boon in your MTG matches.
