Cards like Dromoka's Command
Dromoka’s Command is an adaptable choice within the suite of modal spells in MTG, offering a toolbox approach to problem-solving on the battlefield. Its nearest relative might be Atarka’s Command, yet both commands serve different purposes. While Dromoka’s Command excels in versatility through its options, such as preventing damage from an instant or sorcery and bolstering your creatures, Atarka’s Command focuses on aggression by allowing players to deal damage directly and ramp their mana.
Conversely, Boros Charm shares the flexibility of being an instant with multiple modes, allowing for indestructibility, damage enhancement, or direct damage. Despite their similarities in speed and flexibility, Dromoka’s Command’s ability to act as a creature combat trick or an enchantment removal sets it apart. Also worth mentioning is Golgari Charm – its modes offer utility in creature regeneration, enchantment destruction, or as a mass -1/-1 counter to all creatures, which makes it a contender in tactical versatility similar to Dromoka’s Command.
When comparing these options, Dromoka’s Command maintains a strong position due to its unique blend of defensive and offensive modes, positioning it as a multifaceted tool that can adapt to various game states, enhancing both creature and player strategies.

Card Pros
Card Advantage: Dromoka’s Command possesses the ability to deal with multiple elements on the board within a single card, potentially crippling an opponent’s strategy while simultaneously strengthening your own position.
Resource Acceleration: This versatile spell can also give you an edge by letting your creature fight and take down an opposing creature, effectively acting as removal and clearing the way for accelerated damage to your opponent’s life total.
Instant Speed: The instant nature of Dromoka’s Command allows for dynamic play, giving you the flexibility to respond to threats or bolster your own creatures in the heat of battle when your opponent least expects it.
Card Cons
Discard Requirement: While Dromoka’s Command does not force a discard, it is part of a cycle where other commands may, and players can sometimes confuse the cycle, miscalculating their strategical approach.
Specific Mana Cost: Dromoka’s Command requires a precise mana combination to cast – one green and one white. This specificity means it fits primarily into decks that support both colors, potentially limiting its inclusion in a broader range of decks.
Comparatively High Mana Cost: With a casting cost of two mana, Dromoka’s Command is affordable, yet some players find that its value can be matchup dependent. In games where its modalities do not align perfectly with the situation at hand, its cost efficiency may be brought into question against other instant speed options available at a similar or lesser mana investment.
Reasons to Include Dromoka’s Command in Your Collection
Versatility: Dromoka’s Command offers a flexible suite of options, allowing it to adapt to diverse in-game situations. Its ability to counteract noncreature spells, fight creatures, or bolster your own forces makes it a multifaceted tool for various deck types.
Combo Potential: This card pairs excellently with creatures that have +1/+1 counter synergies or benefit from enchantment sacrifice, opening up numerous combo possibilities within green-white archetypes and beyond.
Meta-Relevance: In a metagame rife with enchantments and small to mid-sized creatures, Dromoka’s Command shines as a cost-effective way to gain an edge, whether you’re preventing damage, enhancing your board presence, or disrupting opponents’ strategies.
How to beat
Dromoka’s Command is a versatile and powerful instant in Magic: The Gathering that offers a suite of options, ranging from countering spells to bolstering your own creatures. When facing this card, the key is to anticipate and manage the flexibility it brings to your opponent’s strategy. Understanding the modal nature of Dromoka’s Command allows you to prepare for its potential effects, such as preventing damage from an instant or sorcery or forcing a sacrifice of an enchantment.
To outmaneuver Dromoka’s Command, consider holding back on casting non-creature spells when your opponent has the mana available to cast it, thus reducing the impact of the command’s counter-active abilities. Moreover, if you’re aware that Dromoka’s Command is in your opponent’s deck, try not to overcommit enchantments to the battlefield to avoid detrimental sacrifices. Lastly, strive to keep your creature’s power and toughness outside the range of Dromoka’s Command’s bolster and fight options, ensuring that your creatures remain a threat regardless of your opponent’s actions.
By carefully tailoring your plays and considering the command’s various modes, you can diminish its effect and maintain the upper hand in your matches. It’s about strategic foresight and minimizing the value your opponent can extract from their Dromoka’s Command.

2015-02-25 | Although most instants and sorceries that cause damage to be dealt are the sources of that damage, a few cause other objects to deal damage (for example, spells that cause creatures to fight). The first ability of Dromoka's Command won't prevent damage caused by those other sources. |
2015-02-25 | As the spell resolves, follow the instructions of the modes you chose in the order they are printed on the card. For example, if you chose the second and fourth modes of Ojutai's Command, you would gain 4 life and then draw a card. (The order won't matter in most cases.) |
2015-02-25 | If a Command is copied, the effect that creates the copy will usually allow you to choose new targets for the copy, but you can't choose new modes. |
2015-02-25 | If all targets for the chosen modes become illegal before the Command resolves, the spell won't resolve and none of its effects will happen. If at least one target is still legal, the spell will resolve but will have no effect on any illegal targets. |
2015-02-25 | You can choose a mode only if you can choose legal targets for that mode. Ignore the targeting requirements for modes that aren't chosen. For example, you can cast Ojutai's Command without targeting a creature spell provided you don't choose the third mode. |
2015-02-25 | You can target any player with the second ability, including one that doesn't control an enchantment. |
2015-02-25 | You choose the two modes as you cast the spell. You must choose two different modes. Once modes are chosen, they can't be changed. |
