Text of card

Enchant artifact you control At the beginning of your upkeep, create a token that's a copy of enchanted artifact. Then if you control eight or more artifacts with the same name as one another, you win the game.

Card Pros

Card Advantage: Mechanized Production excels at providing a consistent stream of card advantage by duplicating an artifact during your upkeep. This not only increases the number of resources at your disposal but also pressures your opponent by growing your board presence without losing hand resources.

Resource Acceleration: Attaching this enchantment to a mana-producing artifact can significantly speed up your resource growth. This means that the potential for ramping up your mana supply each turn can lead to powerful plays earlier in the game, giving you an edge over opponents who may still be developing their board state.

Instant Speed: Although Mechanized Production itself does not operate at instant speed, its ability to clone artifacts that have instant-speed applications allows for versatile and unexpected plays. Imagine doubling up on an artifact that can be sacrificed for an instant effect, giving you a strategic advantage at critical moments.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: To harness the full potential of Mechanized Production, you often need a critical mass of artifacts that can be difficult to maintain, as opponents will target your key pieces, forcing potential resource loss.

Specific Mana Cost: Mechanized Production requires blue mana, demanding commitment to that color which can restrict its inclusion to specific archetypes, lessening its overall flexibility in deck building.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: With an initial investment of four mana, including double blue, Mechanized Production can be a heavy early-game draw when acceleration or defense might be preferable, especially in fast-paced metas.

Reasons to Include in Your Collection

Versatility: Mechanized Production offers a variety of strategies, by cloning any artifact you control, it can enhance both aggressive artifact strategies and control strategies that rely on key pieces.

Combo Potential: This card has the capability to combo with numerous artifacts, exponentially increasing their presence on the battlefield and can even win games by meeting its alternative condition.

Meta-Relevance: In metagames rich with artifact play, Mechanized Production can become a significant threat, requiring opponents to have an answer or face overwhelming odds.

How to beat

Mechanized Production can be a formidable tool when it takes hold of the game, especially in artifact-heavy decks. It relies on the strategy of attaching itself to an artifact and then cloning that artifact each turn. If left unchecked, it has the potential to win the game by accumulating eight or more identical artifacts. To disrupt this, targeted removal spells that can destroy either the enchantment or the enchanted artifact are crucial. Spells like Naturalize or Disenchant are effective as they can remove Mechanized Production directly from the battlefield.

Counterspells also offer a preemptive solution by never allowing Mechanized Production to resolve in the first place. Negate or Counterspell can serve this purpose perfectly, keeping your opponent’s strategy in check. Additionally, board wipes can reset the playing field, so consider cards such as Wrath of God or Shatterstorm to handle multiple artifacts and enchantments at once.

Finally, consider including versatile cards that can adapt to various threats. Cards like Abrade have the flexibility to either target an artifact or deal with a creature, providing a useful tool against a range of challenges you may face in a game where Mechanized Production is present.

Cards like Mechanized Production

Mechanized Production is a unique aura in Magic: The Gathering that combines copy mechanics with a potential win condition. It can be compared to Mirrormade, another versatile card that allows you to copy any artifact or enchantment. While Mirrormade provides instant value upon entering the battlefield, Mechanized Production takes it a step further by involving strategic long-term planning with its ability to clone a chosen artifact during your upkeep.

Comparably, Copy Artifact offers similar duplication benefits at a lower mana cost, but lacks the alternate win feature that makes Mechanized Production stand out. On the flip side, Saheeli’s Artistry can create multiple copies in one go, reflecting both a creature and an artifact, yet it doesn’t offer the continuous cloning capacity or potential victory trigger that Mechanized Production does every turn.

Through examining Mechanized Production against its peers, it’s evident that its combined capabilities of crafting copies and heralding a game win through accumulating eight or more of the same artifacts render it a distinctive and compelling choice for players looking to capitalize on artifact synergy in their decks.

DateText
2017-02-09 All eight of the permanents sharing a name must be artifacts. If you control only seven artifacts with the same name and a nonartifact permanent with that same name, you won’t win the game.
2017-02-09 Any abilities that trigger on the token being created won’t resolve until after Mechanized Production’s triggered ability has finished resolving entirely and performed its check for eight artifacts with the same name.
2017-02-09 Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied artifact trigger when the artifact token enters the battlefield. The artifact token also has any “this enters the battlefield with” or “as this enters the battlefield” abilities that the copied artifact has.
2017-02-09 If Mechanized Production and the enchanted artifact leave the battlefield simultaneously in response to the triggered ability, then the effect creates a token that’s a copy of the artifact as it last existed on the battlefield.
2017-02-09 If the copied artifact has in its mana cost, X is considered to be zero.
2017-02-09 If the copied artifact is a token, the token that’s created copies the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that created it.
2017-02-09 If the copied artifact is copying something else (for example, if the copied artifact is a Sculpting Steel), then the token enters the battlefield as whatever that artifact copied.
2017-02-09 If the enchanted artifact leaves the battlefield in response to Mechanized Production’s triggered ability but Mechanized Production does not, Mechanized Production is put into its owner’s graveyard as a state-based action with no enchanted artifact. The triggered ability creates no token, but you can still win the game if you control enough artifacts with the same name.
2017-02-09 If you control eight or more artifacts that share a name while you control Mechanized Production, you won’t win the game yet. You’ll win the game while resolving its triggered ability during your upkeep.
2017-02-09 The eight artifacts with the same name don’t have to have the same name as the enchanted artifact. For example, you win the game if you control eight Thopter artifact creature tokens as Mechanized Production’s ability resolves, even if Mechanized Production isn’t attached to a Thopter.
2017-02-09 The token copies exactly what was printed on the original artifact and nothing else (unless that artifact is copying something else or is a token; see below). It doesn’t copy whether that artifact is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its types, color, or so on.
