Text of card

Ban one card, other than a basic land, for the remainder of the match. (For the remainder of the match, each player removes from the game all copies of that card in play or in any graveyard, hand, library, or sideboard.)

Few understand the DCI's rigorous decision-making process.

Card Pros

Card Advantage: ‘Look at Me, I’m the DCI’ presents a unique angle on card advantage. While it doesn’t draw cards directly, it disrupts your opponent’s board state calculation, effectively granting you a form of psychological card advantage. It allows you to outmaneuver opponents’ expected plays, keeping them guessing and disrupting their strategy.

Resource Acceleration: With ‘Look at Me, I’m the DCI,’ you wield the power to affect not just the current but future turns as well. By potentially eliminating key cards from your opponent’s deck, you are accelerating the utilization of your own resources by comparison. It adds a layer of depth to deck building, encouraging the inclusion of cards that can capitalize on the altered game state.

Instant Speed: This card’s ability to be played at instant speed offers exceptional versatility. You can utilize it as a surprise element during your opponent’s turn, upsetting their tactics and tilting the in-game tempo in your favor. Instant speed plays are crucial in maintaining the element of unpredictability and forcing adversaries to play cautiously, not knowing when you might change the rules of play.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: One downside of the ‘Look at Me, I’m the DCI’ card is its discard requirement. Players must part with a card in hand, a strategic sacrifice that can backfire if they’re already in a tight spot resource-wise.

Specific Mana Cost: This card demands a precise combination of mana colors—two blue and one colorless—to be played. This limitation might restrict the card’s integration across various deck types, narrowing its flexibility and utility in a diverse array of strategies.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: Given its relatively steep casting cost, ‘Look at Me, I’m the DCI’ may not be the most mana-efficient option on the table. For a card that targets humor rather than competitive play, its effectiveness versus mana investment is a point for consideration, especially when more practical alternatives exist.

Reasons to Include in Your Collection

Versatility: “Look at Me, I’m the DCI” offers a unique and versatile inclusion for decks that thrive on humor and surprise. While it may not fit into every competitive deck, it’s a perfect pick for casual plays and collectors who appreciate Magic’s lighter side.

Combo Potential: This card can be a fun addition to combos that involve swapping control of permanents or bending the traditional rules of gameplay. Its singular effects can often set up unprecedented interactions with other cards.

Meta-Relevance: Although more of a niche card than a meta-defining tool, “Look at Me, I’m the DCI” can be a conversation starter and a memorable play in casual games. Its uniqueness ensures it has a place in the hearts of players looking for something different from their MTG experience.

How to beat

Look at Me, I’m the DCI is a unique card that brings humor into the realm of Magic: The Gathering, known as much for its whimsical art as for its gameplay impact. When evaluating strategies to counter this peculiar card, it’s crucial to consider its ability to ban cards in the opponent’s deck. One effective method is to rely on a diverse deck that doesn’t hinge on a few key cards. Implementing a wide array of threats and answers reduces the setback if a crucial piece is removed.

Adapting your playstyle can also mitigate the effect of Look at Me, I’m the DCI. For instance, playing cards that can be cast from other zones like the graveyard or exile can outmaneuver the card’s imposing ban effect. Additionally, opting for instant-speed spells can give you the flexibility to respond to the unorthodox rulings this card enacts. In summary, a versatile deck and adaptive tactics are your best bet to overpower the unpredictable nature of Look at Me, I’m the DCI, ensuring that your strategy remains multifaceted and resilient.

Cards like Look at Me, I'm the DCI

In the vibrant ecosystem of Magic: The Gathering, Look at Me, I’m the DCI presents a unique flavor of satirical commentary on the game’s rules and regulations. Its ability to ban a card right out of the game mirrors the function of Unhinged’s card, AWOL, but with a humorous twist that leans more heavily on the meta aspect of the game’s administration, rather than the traditional gameplay.

There is a hint of resemblance with Meddling Mage from the Planeshift set, a card that allows players to name a card that cannot be played as long as it’s on the field. While Meddling Mage has an ongoing, preemptive effect, Look at Me, I’m the DCI’s effect is a one-time event during the execution of its spell. Yet another comparative card is Voidslime from the Dissension set, which can counter any spell, activated ability, or triggered ability—a versatile tool compared to the focused banishing trait of Look at Me, I’m the DCI.

Despite the playful nature of Look at Me, I’m the DCI, its tactical value in a game can be significant, providing a direct and potent form of control that isn’t found in many other cards. It jests at the game’s complexity while offering players a powerful, albeit unorthodox, method to affect the playing field.

DateText
2020-02-29 After you choose a card, all cards with that name are removed from the game in progress, no matter what zone they’re in. If there are any in a player’s sideboard, those are removed as well. Those cards remain out of the game for the rest of that game and for any subsequent game in that match.
2020-02-29 If cards from a player’s main deck are banned, they must replace them with cards from their sideboard to begin the next game of the match. If enough cards are banned such that they can’t meet the deck minimum, they can begin the game with their main deck having fewer cards than is normally required. However, if they end up with fewer than seven cards available, they’ll lose the game as it begins when they are forced to try and draw from their suddenly empty library.
2020-02-29 The DCI, originally short for Duelists’ Convocation International and later short for absolutely nothing, was the name given to the governing body overseeing all Magic organized play. Although this name has since been retired, the card Look at Me, I’m the DCI persists in its honor.
2020-02-29 The ban doesn’t affect tokens, including ones that already exist when the ban goes into effect and future ones that may be created.
