Text of card

Whenever you roll a die, you may reveal the top card of your library. Do this only once each turn. Whenever you reveal a card with mana value less than the result this way, you may exile it. If you do, you may play it this turn.

Cards like Priority Boarding

Priority Boarding is an intriguing card within the realm of creature enhancement spells in MTG. Its likeness can be drawn to cards like Launch the Fleet, which also focuses on attacking creatures and the potential to create tokens. However, Priority Boarding takes an innovative leap by offering a more proactive approach – immediately putting a creature onto the battlefield tapped and attacking, largely bypassing the usual summoning sickness obstacle.

Looking at cards such as Call to the Feast, there’s a clear parallel in token generation, but Priority Boarding stands out by contributing to the battle right away, a feature not shared by the sorcery-speed Call to the Feast. Another analog is Heroic Reinforcements, which both summons creatures and boosts your army, yet Priority Boarding allows for the targeted selection of a beneficial creature from your hand, rather than generating generic tokens.

Ultimately, Priority Boarding has a distinct position in MTG, offering the ability to quickly escalate aggression and maximize the impact of your creatures. It demonstrates a blend of strategy and surprise, a combination that can be game-changing in the midst of battle.

Card Pros

Card Advantage: Priority Boarding offers the strategic edge of digging deeper into your deck, potentially revealing more powerful spells or essential resources thus ensuring that your hand remains filled with game-altering options.

Resource Acceleration: If played with forethought, Priority Boarding can smoothly propel your game plan forward by enabling earlier access to your higher-cost cards, providing a significant leap over your opponent in terms of board presence and available options.

Instant Speed: Its instant-speed nature allows for versatile play, affording the ability to adapt to the flow of the game and react on the fly. This means you can optimize the timing of its casting to either disrupt opponents or to capitalize on the most opportune moment, bolstering your strategic position.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: Priority Boarding necessitates discarding a card to activate its ability, which could be detrimental when your hand is already dwindling, affecting your play strategy negatively.

Specific Mana Cost: This card’s cost demands one blue and one red mana, making it less flexible for decks that aren’t geared towards a blue-red color scheme or those that run on a more varied color palette.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: With a total mana cost of three, including both colored and generic mana, Priority Boarding can be considered a steep investment, especially early in the game or when facing faster, more agile decks that capitalize on low-cost spells.

Reasons to Include Priority Boarding in Your Collection

Versatility: Priority Boarding shines in its ability to seamlessly integrate into various deck archetypes. Its role in enabling creature-based strategies to outpace the opponent makes it a standout choice for players looking to escalate their board presence swiftly.

Combo Potential: This card excels in combinations with enter-the-battlefield abilities or other cards that capitalize on summoning multiple creatures at once. Its potential to create explosive turns where you cascade small advantages into a win is a compelling reason to have it at your disposal.

Meta-Relevance: In a game environment where tempo plays a critical role, Priority Boarding can provide the edge needed to outmaneuver control decks and midrange matchups. Its capability to turn the tide of a game by accelerating your strategy is invaluable in a competitive setting.

How to beat

Priority Boarding is an alluring card that can introduce unexpected twists during combat, especially in decks that emphasize creature strategies. By allowing you to put a creature card at the top of your deck directly into the battlefield, this card can circumvent traditional casting costs and timing restrictions. This can catch an opponent off-guard and tilt the battlefield in your favor quickly.

However, to counteract this advantage, focus on control elements to maintain dominance over the game. Incorporating instant-speed removal spells, which can be triggered in response to Priority Boarding’s activation, help in mitigating potential threats swiftly. Strategies involving graveyard disruption are also pivotal, as they can effectively neutralize creatures before they can be returned to the battlefield. Consider cards like Rest in Peace or Leyline of the Void to hinder such recursion tactics. Additionally, proactive usage of counter spells upon Priority Boarding’s activation can prevent a creature from making a surprise appearance, thus maintaining a stable and favorable board state for you.

Ultimately, maintaining a robust defensive line with these control measures can be the key to outmaneuver the threat posed by Priority Boarding and ensuring your path to victory is secure.

Date Text
2022-10-07 If you roll several dice at the same time, that will trigger the ability once for each roll. You can choose which result you want to reveal a card for.
2022-10-07 Once you choose to reveal the top card of your library during the resolution of Priority Boarding’s ability, that ability won’t trigger again that turn, no matter how many more dice you roll. This is true even if the card you reveal has a mana value too great to be exiled or you reveal a card you could exile but choose not to.
2022-10-07 Priority Boarding doesn’t change when you can play the exiled card. For example, if you exile a sorcery card, you can cast it only during your main phase when the stack is empty. If you exile a land card, you can play it only during your main phase and only if you have an available land play remaining.
