Text of card
When Goblin Blastronauts enters the battlefield, open an Attraction. Whenever you roll a 6, you may copy the spell, ability, or Attraction visit that caused you to roll that die. You may choose new targets for the copy.
The goblins really put themselves into the fireworks show, despite Myra's pleas to stop.
Cards like Goblin Blastronauts
Goblin Blastronauts stride into the realm of red creature cards in Magic: The Gathering with unique abilities. They draw parallels with cards like Raging Goblin, which provides immediate combat potential through haste, allowing it to attack quickly. Goblin Blastronauts, however, launch themselves forward in a different way, aiming to create meaningful impacts on the battlefield through their abilities.
In the landscape of goblins, we see the likes of Goblin Grenade, a spell that’s been a staple in goblin-themed decks for its explosive damage, sacrificing a goblin to deal a hefty five damage to any target. While not a creature, it highlights the sacrificial and aggressive nature inherent in goblin cards. Comparatively, Goblin Blastronauts offer their own brand of board influence without the need for sacrifice.
Analyzing the tactical value of these goblin cards reveals that Goblin Blastronauts hold a distinct place within red creature strategies. Blending aggression with resilient presence, they allow MTG players to command a dynamic pace in matches, setting them apart from their goblin kin.
Cards similar to Goblin Blastronauts by color, type and mana cost
Card Pros
Card Advantage: Goblin Blastronauts offers strategic depth by potentially drawing a card upon inflicting damage. This mechanic supports hand replenishment, keeping your options varied and your plays unpredictable.
Resource Acceleration: With the ability to create Treasure tokens, this card can give you a rapid boost in your mana resources. This acceleration can be pivotal in casting high-cost spells earlier than usual or expanding your board presence quickly.
Instant Speed: The versatility of Goblin Blastronauts lies in its activation at instant speed. This allows for flexible play, enabling you to respond to your opponent’s moves or make decisive plays during their turn, all while keeping the element of surprise on your side.
Card Cons
Discard Requirement: Goblin Blastronauts necessitates players to discard a card, which may not be ideal for decks that already struggle maintaining card advantage.
Specific Mana Cost: Being a red-centric card, it requires a specific mana setup, restricting its integration in multi-colored or non-red decks with ease.
Comparatively High Mana Cost: With its mana cost being on the higher side for its effects, players might find better value in lower cost cards that offer similar or better benefits to the deck’s strategy.
Reasons to Include Goblin Blastronauts in Your Collection
Versatility: Goblin Blastronauts offer a flexible option for a variety of red decks. Their ability to deal damage directly allows them to be a threat in both aggressive and control-oriented strategies.
Combo Potential: These fiery creatures synergize well with cards that have prowess or similar mechanics that feed off of noncreature spells, amplifying the potential for explosive plays.
Meta-Relevance: Given a meta that’s populated with creature-centric decks, Goblin Blastronauts can repeatedly clear small threats or chip away at an opponent’s life total, maintaining pressure throughout the game.
How to beat
Confronting Goblin Blastronauts on the battlefield requires strategic finesse and a solid understanding of your deck’s capabilities. This crafty creature is not just a threat in terms of power, but its damage abilities against creatures or players can tip the scales quickly in your opponent’s favor. The key to overcoming Goblin Blastronauts lies in timely removal. Cards capable of instant-speed removal give you the upper hand, allowing you to sweep it off the board before the damage abilities trigger.
Cards like Shock or Lightning Bolt are excellent options because they deal damage efficiently, which can neutralize Goblin Blastronauts before its ability becomes a problem. Moreover, because these removal spells are low-cost, they help maintain mana balance, ensuring that you can continue to build your board presence while countering threats effectively. Understanding when to play your removal spells will significantly influence your success against this goblin menace. Always remember that timing and resource management are pivotal in claiming victory against powerful creatures like Goblin Blastronauts.

Date | Text |
---|---|
2022-10-07 | Activated and triggered abilities can be copied. Other abilities can’t. If the roll happened because of a replacement effect as part of a static ability (for example, the ability that sets Vedalken Squirrel-Whacker’s base power and toughness), that ability isn’t copied. Mana abilities also can’t be copied. |
2022-10-07 | If you copy a spell or ability, the spell or ability will include instructions to roll more dice. You don’t automatically carry the 6 from the original roll over to the copy. On the plus side, this gives you the chance to roll more 6s! |
2022-10-07 | If you copy an Attraction visit, roll another six-sided die and visit Attractions based on the result as you normally would. If you roll another 6, that will trigger Goblin Blastronauts’s last ability again, which can let you roll another 6. You can keep visiting Attractions this way until your luck runs out or you get sick of the rides. |
2022-10-07 | If you roll multiple 6s, Goblin Blastronauts’s ability will trigger for each 6 you rolled, allowing you to copy the spell or ability that caused the die roll that many times. (Attraction visits always include only a single die roll.) |
