Cards like Glorious Enforcer

In the realm of Magic the Gathering, Glorious Enforcer stands out as an impactful card for those looking to fortify their board presence with vigilant creatures. Comparable to Serra Angel, Glorious Enforcer offers the same flying and vigilance abilities, allowing you to attack without tapping, just like its celestial counterpart. However, Glorious Enforcer takes it a step further, boasting lifelink which grants the wielder life equal to the damage dealt—a boon Serra Angel lacks.

Diving deeper into the realm of vigilant flyers, there’s Baneslayer Angel, another card that shines with lifelink along with protection from demons and dragons. Where Glorious Enforcer continues to find its niche is in its mana cost; being a touch more affordable than Baneslayer makes it a competitive alternative. Furthermore, Archangel Avacyn also enters the fray with similar traits but adds an element of surprise with its transform ability.

Thus, when evaluating Glorious Enforcer against its kin, the card undoubtedly carves a unique position for players who value the combination of aggressive attack potential and defensive lifelink sustainability it brings to the MTG battlefield.

Card Pros

Card Advantage: Glorious Enforcer presents a clear edge when it comes to maintaining a steady flow of options in your hand. By offering potential lifelink during the latter stages of the game, it effectively helps you draw out more of your deck by sustaining a higher life total, indirectly providing a card advantage. Being able to stay in the game longer means accessing more of your arsenal.

Resource Acceleration: While not directly accelerating resources, Glorious Enforcer helps preserve the ones you have. By serving as a formidable blocker or an attacker that can gain you life, it allows you to stall until you can deploy more impactful plays. This, combined with the fact that it could dissuade opponents from attacking, means you can focus your resources on other aspects of your strategy.

Instant Speed: Glorious Enforcer itself may not be an instant, but its presence significantly influences the dynamics of instant-speed plays. With the deterrent of a potent lifelink creature, opponents are forced to rethink their instant-speed removals and combat tricks, potentially giving you the upper hand during the crucial interaction windows of the game.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: Often, powerful effects in MTG come with a trade-off. The mandatory discard required by some cards like Glorious Enforcer can be a strategic setback, especially when you find your hand dwindling and the game’s pressure is mounting.

Specific Mana Cost: Crafting the perfect mana base is a fine art, and cards with a rigid mana requirement can disrupt this balance. Glorious Enforcer, for instance, may stipulate a precise mana makeup, which might not align with multicolored or flexible mana strategies, consequently narrowing the decks it can fit into.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: Efficiency is key in the realm of MTG, where every turn counts. Cards vying for a spot in your deck need to justify their mana cost by their impact on the game. With Glorious Enforcer’s mana value potentially on the steeper side, it’s crucial to weigh its abilities against other cards that could serve similar roles at a lower cost, thus ensuring your mana is spent in the most effective way possible.

Reasons to Include in Your Collection

Versatility: Glorious Enforcer stands out due to its ability to adapt to various game situations. Whether you’re fending off attackers or pressuring opponents, its lifelink and vigilance provide valuable flexibility on the battlefield.

Combo Potential: This card synergizes well with strategies that capitalize on gaining life. The lifelink attribute can fuel abilities that trigger upon life gain, serving as a linchpin in many life-centric combos.

Meta-Relevance: In a game environment that rewards players for sustaining life totals and controlling the board, Glorious Enforcer can be a game-changer. Its ability to affect the life race while maintaining board presence makes it relevant in a variety of meta situations.

How to beat

Glorious Enforcer is a dynamic presence on the battlefield in MTG, known for its ability to maintain health equilibrium with its lifelink characteristic. It shares traits with other life-gaining creatures such as Ajani’s Pridemate, yet it stands out with flying, granting it an edge in avoiding ground blockers. But overcoming this card calls for strategic plays.

To effectively counter Glorious Enforcer, removal spells can be quite potent. Cards like Murder offer a swift resolution, exiling the creature before its lifelink can tip the scales. Board wipes such as Wrath of God also level the playing field, eliminating the Enforcer along with other threats. When removal is scarce, utilizing creatures with reach or flyers of your own to block and eliminate the Enforcer can turn the tide. Additionally, winning a race against the lifelink can be achieved by rapidly expanding your own threats or employing direct damage spells that circumvent the life gain.

Assessing all angles, employing direct removal or strategically managing the board will pave your path to victory against the formidable Glorious Enforcer, enabling your strategy to shine even in the face of its powerful abilities.

Date Text
2021-06-18 After the triggered ability resolves, Glorious Enforcer will continue to have double strike until the end of the turn no matter what players' life totals are.
2021-06-18 Glorious Enforcer's triggered ability checks whether you have more life than an opponent at the beginning of each combat to see if it triggers. If you don't, the ability won't trigger at all. The ability will check again as it tries to resolve. If you don't at that time, the ability won't do anything. You must have more life than an opponent at both times for Glorious Enforcer to get double strike. It does not, however, need to be the same opponent both times.
