Text of card

As an additional cost to cast this spell, sacrifice an artifact or creature. Draw two cards and create a Map token. (It's an artifact with ", , Sacrifice this artifact: Target creature you control explores. Activate only as a sorcery.")

The gateway could be opened only by the spilling of innocent blood. Vito did not hesitate.

Cards like Fanatical Offering

Fanatical Offering stands as an intriguing choice among sacrificial spells in Magic: The Gathering. It draws a parallel to cards such as Burnt Offering, which similarly revolves around sacrificing a creature for an immediate burst of mana. Fanatical Offering, however, introduces the twist of dealing damage to a target creature or player based on the sacrificed creature’s power, adding strategic offensive capabilities.

Next, consider Altar’s Reap, which converts a creature sacrifice into direct card advantage by drawing two cards, offering more of a subtle approach to resource gain when compared to the explosive damage or mana ramp that Fanatical Offering could provide. On the other hand, Collateral Damage stands out for its simplicity, requiring a creature sacrifice for a static three points of damage to any target, sans the mana generation but also costing only a single red mana.

To sum up, Fanatical Offering earns its place among sacrificial spells thanks to its flexibility in damaging targets or generating substantial mana, making it a uniquely valuable tool for MTG players looking to craft a strategy that balances destruction with advancement.

Card Pros

Card Advantage: Fanatical Offering shines by providing a significant boost in hand resources. With every cast, it affords players the possibility to sway the tide of the match by introducing new options into their hand, which is crucial for staying ahead of the competition.

Resource Acceleration: Beyond just adding cards to your hand, this potent card ramps up your mana resources. The additional mana provided can be the key to a swift victory by enabling you to cast more formidable spells earlier in the game or by offering the flexibility to respond to threats as they arise.

Instant Speed: The beauty of Fanatical Offering lies in its timing. As an instant, it offers strategic versatility, allowing players to adapt to the evolving game state, respond to opponents’ actions on-the-fly, and make decisive moves at the most opportune moments.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: Fanatical Offering presents a challenge as players must discard a card to activate its ability. This could be particularly detrimental during late-game scenarios where maintaining card advantage is crucial.

Specific Mana Cost: With a mana cost that demands both black and red, this card’s inclusion is confined primarily to Rakdos decks, potentially limiting its versatility across the MTG spectrum.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: The cost to get Fanatical Offering on the field is on the high side, and its impact might not be as immediate or powerful compared to other cards available at a similar mana expenditure.

Reasons to Include in Your Collection

Versatility: Fanatical Offering presents a unique advantage to players as it can slip seamlessly into multiple deck archetypes. Whether you’re running an aggro deck that benefits from the sudden swell of creatures or a control deck leveraging the lifegain, this card adjusts to your strategic needs.

Combo Potential: With its ability to summon multiple creatures and provide life, Fanatical Offering can synergize with strategies revolving around creature count or life triggers. It has the capacity to turn the tides by supporting combo finishes that require a high creature presence or lifegain.

Meta-Relevance: In a game where creature-based tactics and life totals are crucial, Fanatical Offering aligns well with the contemporary competitive landscape. Its functionality can be a game-changer in matches, making it a relevant inclusion among current deck trends.

How to beat

Fanatical Offering is a unique spell in the landscape of Magic: The Gathering, demanding both strategy and foresight to overcome. This card is known to offer a formidable buff to creatures, bolstering their strength at a vital moment during combat. To effectively navigate around this obstacle, consider leveraging removal spells that can target creatures either before the buff takes effect or as a response to the casting of Fanatical Offering.

Managing your creature resources wisely is crucial. Engage in battles where your creatures are less likely to be outmatched by the pumped opponent, or keep back chump blockers to mitigate the impact of a strengthened assault. Additionally, counterspells serve as a direct method to nullify the offering, ensuring your opponent’s creatures remain at their base power and toughness levels.

Understanding the timing and potential use of Fanatical Offering in your opponent’s deck can substantially influence your game plan. Preparedness and anticipation permit adept players to handle the boost Fanatical Offering provides, thereby maintaining balance in the game. Ultimately, confronting this spell requires a mix of strategic creature combat, instant-speed interaction, and the judicious use of control elements.

Date Text
2023-11-10 If a resolving spell or ability instructs a specific creature to explore but that creature has left the battlefield, the creature still explores. If you reveal a nonland card this way, you won't put a +1/+1 counter on anything, but you may put the revealed card into your graveyard. Effects that trigger "whenever a creature explores" trigger as appropriate.
2023-11-10 If an ability instructs a creature to explore, its controller reveals the top card of their library. If it's a land card, they'll put it into their hand. Otherwise, they'll put a +1/+1 counter on that creature, then choose to either leave that card on top of their library or put it into their graveyard.
2023-11-10 If no card is revealed, most likely because that player's library is empty, the exploring creature receives a +1/+1 counter.
2023-11-10 In some unusual cases, noncreature permanents may explore. For example, if the creature card returned by Defossilize is somehow not a creature once it's on the battlefield, it can still explore. You'll take all the same actions, and you may end up putting a +1/+1 counter on the permanent. (Note that some effects target a creature, and those effects would still require a legal target to have it explore.)
2023-11-10 Map tokens are a kind of predefined token. Each one is a colorless artifact with the artifact subtype Map and the ability ", , Sacrifice this artifact: Target creature you control explores. Activate only as a sorcery."
2023-11-10 Once an ability that causes a creature to explore begins to resolve, no player may take any other actions until it's done. Notably, opponents can't try to remove the exploring creature after you reveal a nonland card but before it receives a counter.
2023-11-10 Some spells or abilities might cause a creature to explore multiple times in a row. If you reveal a nonland card when a creature explores and leave it on top of your library, then the creature explores again immediately afterwards, you'll reveal the same card again.
