Constellation — Whenever Calix, Guided by Fate or another enchantment enters the battlefield under your control, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature. Whenever Calix or an enchanted creature you control deals combat damage to a player, you may create a token that's a copy of a nonlegendary enchantment you control. Do this only once each turn.
Cards like Calix, Guided by Fate
Calix, Guided by Fate stands out in the pantheon of planeswalkers in Magic: The Gathering. This unique planeswalker is often compared to other enchantment-focused planeswalkers like Daxos, Blessed by the Sun. While Daxos excels in beefing up your life total on the back of enchantment play, Calix’s ability to look for enchantments is more selective, offering targeted deck manipulation.
Another card with a similar enchantment synergy is Estrid, the Masked. Estrid’s versatility in untapping enchanted permanents can lead to powerful combos, whereas Calix’s abilities are more geared towards control, with his exile effect providing a direct method to deal with threats. The difference in mana cost and colors between these planeswalkers also affects deck-building decisions, as Calix requires a dedication to green and white mana.
When evaluating planeswalkers for enchantment-centric strategies within MTG, Calix, Guided by Fate is a strong contender for providing pinpoint support and disrupting opponents, making him a valued piece in decks that prioritize enchantment interactions.

Card Pros
Card Advantage: Calix, Guided by Fate offers significant card advantage with its ability to look at the top four cards of your library and reveal an enchantment card among them to put into your hand. This keyed ability helps not only to ensure that you get valuable enchantments but also to sculpt a hand aligned with your strategic goals.
Resource Acceleration: By providing consistent access to enchantments, Calix, Guided by Fate can indirectly accelerate your resources. With enchantments that may reduce casting costs, produce additional mana, or even double the effects of other spells, Calix has the potential to be a pivot point for ramping up your board state and solidifying your presence on the battlefield.
Instant Speed: While Calix himself does not operate at instant speed, many enchantments that you might reveal and put into your hand with his ability can be played at instant speed. This offers a layer of unpredictability and strategic flexibility, as you can adapt to the unfolding game and cast powerful surprises during your opponent’s turn, or in response to their actions.
Card Cons
Discard Requirement: One of the main drawbacks is that Calix, Guided by Fate requires a specific board situation to harness its full potential. Unlike other planeswalkers, Calix doesn’t offer inherent card advantage and relies on the presence of enchantments in your deck to function effectively.
Specific Mana Cost: Calix’s mana cost demands a strict adherence to green and white mana sources. This inflexibility means it’s less versatile for inclusion in decks that might operate with a broader color base or utilize more generic mana costs.
Comparatively High Mana Cost: For four mana, some players might expect a broader range of abilities. While Calix offers a unique enchantment synergy, other planeswalkers or cards at the same mana cost might provide immediate impact or more versatile options for control and board presence.
Reasons to Include in Your Collection
Versatility: Calix, Guided by Fate is a unique planeswalker that can be easily integrated into enchantment-heavy decks. His abilities synergize with enchantments, allowing for enhanced control and utility in both offensive and defensive strategies.
Combo Potential: With the ability to look at the top cards of your library and exile an enchantment card, Calix can set up powerful plays, enabling enchantment-based combos that can decisively swing the game in your favor.
Meta-Relevance: As the metagame shifts, Calix remains a relevant choice in formats where enchantments are prevalent. His ability to protect himself and disrupt opponents by exiling their creatures or enchantments ensures a consistent impact on the battlefield.
How to beat Calix Guided by Fate
Calix, Guided by Fate is a unique planeswalker card that thrives on enchantment synergy within a deck. To effectively beat Calix, it’s crucial to disrupt this synergy. Targeted removal spells that can handle enchantments, such as Disenchant or Mortify, can be particularly valuable in stripping Calix of his support. Interrupting the enchantment-heavy strategy limits Calix’s ability to control the battlefield.
Another strategy focuses on direct planeswalker counters. Using instant-speed spells like Hero’s Downfall or Dreadbore allows players to remove Calix regardless of his loyalty counters. Playing around his -3 ability, which requires him to find an enchantment card, you could force your opponent to make unfavorable searches by controlling the timing of your removal spells.
Focusing on aggressive strategies can also be effective. By applying pressure and forcing an opponent to defend instead of developing their enchantment base, it can hinder Calix’s search ability and his ultimate from being a threat. Prioritizing a fast-paced game and keeping enchantments off the board is key to ensuring Calix, Guided by Fate does not determine the fate of your match.
BurnMana Recommendations
Calix, Guided by Fate provides enchantment deck enthusiasts in MTG a tailored way to search out key pieces, ensuring deck consistency and strategic play. His nuanced abilities require a harmonious deck but the payoff in resource acceleration and control can be substantial. With the right setup, Calix can become a cornerstone in your strategy, offering both protection and potent combo setups. Consider the current metagame and your collection’s adaptability to maximize Calix’s potential. If building a deck around enchantments appeals to you, don’t miss the chance to integrate Calix into your repertoire for an optimized gaming experience.

2023-05-12 | Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied permanent will trigger when the token enters the battlefield. Any "as -his permanent] enters the battlefield" or " -his permanent] enters the battlefield with" abilities of the copied permanent will also work. |
2023-05-12 | Calix may be the target of its own constellation ability. This includes when Calix itself enters the battlefield. |
2023-05-12 | Calix's last ability doesn't target any permanent. You choose which nonlegendary enchantment you control you're creating a token copy of, if any, as the ability resolves. No player may take any actions between your choice and the creation of the token. |
2023-05-12 | If the copied permanent has in its mana cost, X is 0. |
2023-05-12 | If the copied permanent is a token, the token that's created copies the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that created that token. |
2023-05-12 | If the copied permanent is copying something else, then the token enters the battlefield as whatever that permanent copied. |
2023-05-12 | Once you choose to create a token using the last ability, that ability won't trigger again that turn. Additional instances of the ability that are already on the stack will resolve but will have no effect. |
2023-05-12 | The token copies exactly what was printed on the original permanent and nothing else (unless that permanent is copying something else or is a token; see below). It doesn't copy whether that permanent is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras and Equipment attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, and so on. |
