o Uoo U Exchange control of Phyrexian Infiltrator and target creature.
"It is Yawgmoth's will incarnate: an efficient machine that replaces inefficient flesh." —Tsabo Tavoc
Card Pros
Card Advantage: Phyrexian Infiltrator can prove instrumental in swinging the momentum of the game by providing a unique form of card advantage. The Infiltrator lets its controller exchange control of it with a target creature an opponent controls, effectively reducing your opponent’s board presence while simultaneously enhancing your own. This can disrupt your opponent’s strategy and bolster your position on the battlefield without any loss in hand or deck resources.
Resource Acceleration: While Phyrexian Infiltrator itself does not directly accelerate resources in terms of mana, the ability to gain control of potentially stronger creatures can ramp up your tactical advantage. By exchanging the Infiltrator for a creature with, for example, mana-generating abilities, you can potentially increase your own resource acceleration indirectly, and at the very least, deprive your opponent of those same resources.
Instant Speed: One of the key features of Phyrexian Infiltrator is its ability to be activated at instant speed. This allows a player to wait until the most strategically advantageous moment to exchange creatures. Whether it’s during the opponent’s end step, in response to an opponent’s spell or ability, or mid-combat to disrupt blockers or attackers, having the flexibility to use the Infiltrator’s ability at instant speed provides significant tactical leverage.
Card Cons
Discard Requirement: Phyrexian Infiltrator requires you to discard two cards, a steep price that can deplete your hand and lessen your in-game options.
Specific Mana Cost: This card demands a precise mana commitment of two blue and two black mana, making it less flexible and harder to accommodate outside of dedicated two-color decks.
Comparatively High Mana Cost: With a casting cost of four mana, Phyrexian Infiltrator can be overshadowed by lower-cost creatures or spells that provide quicker board presence or immediate value.
Reasons to Include Phyrexian Infiltrator in Your Collection
Versatility: Phyrexian Infiltrator offers a unique set of abilities that allow it to adapt to a variety of situations. Its ability to swap control of creatures can be utilized in different strategies, from disrupting opponent’s boards to maximizing the potential of your own.
Combo Potential: This card seamlessly interacts with numerous combos, particularly in decks that capitalize on creature control mechanics. Its inclusion can lead to powerful plays, potentially stealing significant threats from your adversary’s side of the field.
Meta-Relevance: Given its capacity to alter the board state, Phyrexian Infiltrator remains relevant in metas where creature-based strategies predominate. The ability to exchange creatures can turn the tides in key matches, making it a strategic piece in competitive play.
How to beat
The Phyrexian Infiltrator presents a unique challenge on the battlefield for many players due to its ability to exchange itself with an opponent’s creature. When facing this tactical nuisance, it’s essential to prioritize maintaining control of the board. To outmaneuver the Infiltrator, consider keeping mana open for instant-speed removal or to activate abilities that can protect or sacrifice your key creatures as the swap is being initiated. This prevents the Infiltrator from targeting the creatures crucial to your strategy. Additionally, you can employ cards with hexproof to shield your valuable assets from being chosen by such abilities.
Furthermore, employing a strategy focused on low-value creatures can also negate the impact of the Infiltrator’s ability. If your creatures are of roughly equal value or expendable, the Infiltrator loses much of its strategic advantage. Lastly, as with any formidable creature, sometimes a straightforward approach works best. Utilize direct removal spells to eliminate the Infiltrator before it can disrupt your game plan. In summary, staying flexible, proactive, and aware of the Infiltrator’s capabilities will enhance your resilience against this cunning card.
Cartas como Espía Phyrexiano
The Phyrexian Infiltrator stands as a unique creature within the Magic the Gathering blend of control cards. It invites comparison to other notable creatures such as Daring Thief, which facilitates the trade of permanents under specific conditions. However, unlike Daring Thief, Phyrexian Infiltrator doesn’t require tapping, allowing for immediate and unexpected plays. It also doesn’t limit the exchange to creatures of the same type, providing wider utility.
Another similar card is Vedalken Plotter; its effect is a one-time land swap without any mana expense, providing a straightforward, albeit less flexible, exchange mechanism. Conversely, Phyrexian Infiltrator requires a mana investment but offers repeated use and a broader selection of exchangeable permanents. Gilded Drake also highlights a comparable power by exchanging control of creatures, though it’s limited to a single event and specifically targets creatures, unlike the wider-reaching impact of Phyrexian Infiltrator.
Overall, while there are various cards with exchange abilities in Magic the Gathering, Phyrexian Infiltrator’s capacity to unconditionally swap any type of creatures or artifacts sets it apart, granting a strategic edge in battles of wits and resource control.

2004-10-04 | It is possible to activate this ability in response to itself and generate some odd combinations. For example, if you control this card and another creature, you can use this card’s ability and target the creature you control. You can then use this card’s ability again and target a creature your opponent controls. The second usage resolves first and you get your opponent’s creature in exchange for this one. The first usage then resolves and swaps your other creature for the Infiltrator so you get it back. The net effect is that you can swap any creature you have for any of theirs if you can pay this ability twice. Note that your opponent does get the chance to use the Infiltrator if they have the mana in between your two usages and can mess you up. |
2004-10-04 | There is no effect if the same player controls both creatures when it resolves. |
