Texto da carta

Hissing Quagmire enters the battlefield tapped. : Add or . : Hissing Quagmire becomes a 2/2 black and green Elemental creature with deathtouch until end of turn. It's still a land.

Card Pros

Card Advantage: Hissing Quagmire affords strategic flexibility on the battlefield, enabling its controller to keep land resources untapped until it’s most advantageous to transform it into a creature. This adaptability can lead to card advantage as it forces opponents to deal with it as both a land and a threat.

Resource Acceleration: Not only is Hissing Quagmire a valuable resource in terms of mana production, offering both black and green mana, but it also accelerates your board presence by turning into a creature without requiring an additional card from your hand. This duality means you can enhance your resource pool while developing your board state.

Instant Speed: The ability to animate Hissing Quagmire at instant speed provides you with the opportunity to optimize your tactics. You can choose to activate it during the end step of your opponent’s turn to present an unexpected blocker or retain mana for other instant-speed interactions, thus keeping your opponents guessing and maximizing your in-game responsiveness.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: Unlike some other land cards, Hissing Quagmire doesn’t have its own inherent card advantage mechanics. Therefore, optimizing its use may necessitate discarding other valuable cards from your hand to make room for its specific mana requirements, which can put you at a resource disadvantage during the game.

Specific Mana Cost: Hissing Quagmire requires a combination of green and black mana to activate its creature ability. This specific mana cost means it may not fit seamlessly into every deck, especially those that do not run both colors or multicolored decks that may struggle to find the right mana at a critical moment in the game.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: To transform Hissing Quagmire into a creature, you’ll need to pay both black and green mana, which might be considered a high price for a 2/2 creature with deathtouch. Other land options could potentially offer more flexibility or a larger creature for a similar investment, making Hissing Quagmire potentially less economical in certain scenarios.

Reasons to Include Hissing Quagmire in Your Collection

Versatility: Hissing Quagmire serves as both a mana source and a creature, making it a flexible addition to decks. Its ability to transform into a creature with deathtouch makes it a valuable tool for both offense and defense, adapting to the needs of the game.

Combo Potential: This land synergizes well with strategies that capitalize on land-based abilities or death triggers. As a creature, it can be used to enable landfall abilities or to complement sacrifice mechanics, making it a potent piece in various combo setups.

Meta-Relevance: With its ability to become an unexpected blocker or an attacker, Hissing Quagmire aligns well with a meta that shifts between aggressive and control-centric playstyles. Its presence can discourage opponents from attacking and can catch them off-guard, providing a strategic edge in many matchups.

How to beat

Hissing Quagmire serves as a versatile land card in Magic: The Gathering, doubling up as an offensive and defensive tool. Its capability to turn into a creature with deathtouch makes it a formidable blocker that can deter attackers. However, this unique feature becomes its vulnerability as well. Since it must be activated and only becomes a creature until end of turn, timing is critical. Utilizing instant-speed removal spells when Hissing Quagmire animates allows you to bypass its deathtouch since the creature will no longer exist to deal its lethal damage.

Leveraging land destruction effects or cards that inhibit activated abilities can also efficiently counter this animated land. Cards such as Field of Ruin can directly destroy Hissing Quagmire, while Suppression Field can make its transformation cost prohibitive. Furthermore, deploying creature removals such as Fatal Push or Path to Exile can easily eliminate the Quagmire once it animates—preferably before it declares as a blocker or attacker.

Conserving resources and strategically timing these interactions ensure Hissing Quagmire’s dual threat is mitigated, allowing players to navigate around this multifaceted land with relative ease, maintaining a balanced battlefield.

Cartas similares a Hissing Quagmire

Hissing Quagmire serves as a compelling option within the realm of land cards in Magic: The Gathering. It shares properties with other man-lands, such as Lumbering Falls. Both lands have the ability to become creatures with a simple mana investment. What sets Hissing Quagmire apart is its deathtouch ability, allowing it to effectively block and eliminate formidable creatures that your opponents control.

Analogous to Hissing Quagmire is Stirring Wildwood which can also animate itself into a creature. Stirring Wildwood instead boasts the keyword reach and has a higher power, providing defense against flying creatures. However, it lacks deathtouch, arguably giving Hissing Quagmire an edge in creature control. Creeping Tar Pit is another similar card which turns into an unblockable creature, ensuring it can reliably deal damage to an opponent. Though unblockable is a strong ability, Hissing Quagmire’s deathtouch makes it uniquely valuable during the combat phase, especially on defense.

Comparing these cards, Hissing Quagmire sits comfortably among its peers with its balance of combat flexibility and the potential to alter the board state with its deathtouch, making it a worthy inclusion in many Magic: The Gathering decks that value strategic defense.

Data Texto
2016-01-22 A land that becomes a creature may be affected by “summoning sickness.” You can’t attack with it or use any of its abilities (including its mana abilities) unless it began your most recent turn on the battlefield under your control. Note that summoning sickness cares about when that permanent came under your control, not when it became a creature nor when it entered the battlefield.
2016-01-22 An ability that turns a land into a creature also sets that creature’s power and toughness. If the land was already a creature (for example, if it was the target of a spell with awaken), this will overwrite the previous effect that set its power and toughness. Effects that modify its power or toughness will continue to apply no matter when they started to take effect. The same is true for counters that change its power or toughness (such as +1/+1 counters) and effects that switch its power and toughness. For example, if Hissing Quagmire has been made a 0/0 creature with three +1/+1 counters on it, activating its last ability will turn it into a 5/5 creature that’s still a land.
2016-01-22 This land is colorless until the last ability gives it colors.
2016-01-22 When a land becomes a creature, that doesn’t count as having a creature enter the battlefield. The permanent was already on the battlefield; it only changed its types. Abilities that trigger whenever a creature enters the battlefield won’t trigger.
