Texto da carta

Riot (This creature enters the battlefield with your choice of a +1/+1 counter or haste.) When Ravager Wurm enters the battlefield, choose up to one — • Ravager Wurm fights target creature you don't control. • Destroy target land with an activated ability that isn't a mana ability.

Card Pros

Card Advantage: Ravager Wurm offers a dual utility that can pivot a game in your favor. With the option to either fight another creature or destroy a land with an activated ability, this card can disrupt your opponent’s board presence or resource base while adding a powerful creature to your field.

Resource Acceleration: Although Ravager Wurm itself does not directly accelerate resources, its presence on the battlefield can pave the way for smoother plays. By eliminating key lands or creatures, you can hinder your opponent’s plans, potentially allowing you to outpace them in terms of resource development and board impact.

Instant Speed: While Ravager Wurm is a creature card and therefore not an instant, its Riot ability provides immediate impact upon entering the battlefield. Choosing to give it haste lets it attack or use its fight ability right away, offering instant-like speediness that can catch opponents off guard.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: While the Ravager Wurm doesn’t ask you to discard directly, it necessitates a hefty investment into both Red and Green mana sources. This can leave your hand depleted and restrict your ability to respond to your opponent’s moves if you’ve ramped up to cast it without generating card advantage.

Specific Mana Cost: The mana cost of this creature is quite particular, requiring three colors — including a double commitment to Red. This specificity could potentially disrupt your mana base or demand a deck build-around, thus making it less versatile and harder to slot into a variety of decks.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: With a steep summoning cost of six mana, including two Red and one Green, the Ravager Wurm can be slow to hit the battlefield. In the fast-paced metagame where efficiency is key, the Wurm’s cost may be a drawback as other creatures or spells could offer similar or greater impact for less mana.

Reasons to Include in Your Collection

Versatility: Ravager Wurm is an adaptable powerhouse, seamlessly fitting into Gruul or Jund decks. Its flexibility to act both as a removal option with its fight ability or a land disruptor makes it a valuable asset in various game situations.

Combo Potential: Coupled with cards that manipulate counters or benefit from creature destruction, Ravager Wurm can serve as a key piece in combinations that remove threats while developing your board state.

Meta-Relevance: In a game where creatures and land utility play a central role, Ravager Wurm holds its ground by directly disrupting your opponent’s plans. Its significant presence on the board can be a game-changer in your favor amid creature-centric metas.

How to beat

Ravager Wurm is an imposing presence on the battlefield, boasting powerful abilities that can turn the tides of a Magic: The Gathering match. With its ability to either fight another creature or destroy a land with an activated ability, this wurm can wreak havoc if it lands on the board. To successfully contend with this beast, players should consider keeping removal spells in their hand until the wurm makes its entrance. Direct damage spells or instant-speed removal like Murder or Path to Exile can dispatch the wurm before its impact is felt.

Alternatively, counterspells play a pivotal role in neutralizing this threat preemptively. Cards like Cancel or Absorb can ensure that Ravager Wurm never touches the battlefield, circumventing its destructive entrance altogether. In matches where such control elements are less abundant, focusing on strategies that can outpace or overwhelm your opponent before they accumulate the six mana required to summon Ravager Wurm is key. This might involve aggressive early creatures or ramping up to even more menacing, game-ending threats that outrank the wurm in power.

Ultimately, the key to triumphing over a card like Ravager Wurm is to prepare your deck with versatile answers or to adopt a strategy that can outmaneuver its strengths, making it just another stepping stone on your path to victory.

Cartas similares a Ravager Wurm

When discussing formidable creatures in Magic: The Gathering, Ravager Wurm comes to mind as a powerful force. This beast can be compared to similarly potent cards such as Polukranos, World Eater, a creature with its own formidable monstrosity ability. Unlike the Wurm, though, Polukranos does not allow for land destruction or fighting other creatures as it enters the battlefield, yet it can become monstrous and fight an opponent’s creature on demand.

On a related note, we have Hellkite Tyrant, which offers a distinct flying advantage and a threatening endgame condition by stealing artifacts. While it doesn’t boast immediate board impact through fighting or land destruction like Ravager Wurm, it can shift the game’s balance with its unique looting ability. Apex Devastator, another comparable card, cascades four times to potentially bring multiple impactful cards into play, but lacks the direct removal options provided by Ravager Wurm.

Each of these creatures has its own strategic merit, but for players seeking direct and versatile creature and land removal options at the moment of casting, Ravager Wurm may be the preferred choice. Its flexibility makes it a noteworthy inclusion in decks that capitalize on powerful and immediate board presence.

Regras e informações

Data Texto
2019-01-25 Activated abilities contain a colon. They’re generally written “
-ost:
-ffect].” Some keyword abilities are activated abilities and will have colons in their reminder text. An activated mana ability is one that produces mana as it resolves, not one that costs mana to activate.
2019-01-25 If a creature entering the battlefield has riot but can’t have a +1/+1 counter put onto it, it gains haste.
2019-01-25 If the target of Ravager Wurm’s first mode isn’t a legal target as that ability resolves, or if Ravager Wurm has left the battlefield, neither creature will deal or be dealt damage.
2019-01-25 If you choose for the creature to gain haste, it gains haste indefinitely. It won’t lose it as the turn ends or as another player gains control of it.
2019-01-25 Riot is a replacement effect. Players can’t respond to your choice of +1/+1 counter or haste, and they can’t take actions while the creature is on the battlefield without one or the other.
2019-01-25 You may choose neither mode for Ravager Wurm’s triggered ability. In this case, the ability is removed from the stack with no effect.
