Card Pros

Card Advantage: Obeka, Brute Chronologist offers a unique advantage in the form of controlling the end of turn. This allows players to exploit ‘end the turn’ effects, effectively negating downside effects that normally occur during the end step. Obeka’s ability to curtail these effects can lead to significant card advantage as you capitalize on potent abilities without the associated costs.

Resource Acceleration: In the world of MTG, Obeka can be seen as a form of resource acceleration, not in the traditional sense of providing additional mana, but by accelerating the use of your cards’ potential. By ending the turn abruptly, you can skirt costly sacrifices or detrimental triggers, essentially getting more out of your cards than you would in a normal turn cycle.

Instant Speed: Obeka’s ability functions at instant speed, providing immense flexibility. This enables you to disrupt opponents’ strategies mid-combat or during their end step, maintain threats on board that would otherwise be removed, and surprise opponents who might not be ready for such an abrupt end to their plans.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: Obeka, Brute Chronologist demands precise timing and card selection to maximize her value. Incorrectly leveraging her ability to end the turn prematurely may result in having to discard advantageous cards, causing a reduction in hand advantage.

Specific Mana Cost: Obeka’s mana cost is color-intensive, requiring one blue, one black, and one red, on top of a generic mana. This specific combination can be restrictive, limiting her inclusion to only Grixis-colored or five-color decks with proper mana fixing.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: A total cost of four mana, with a three-color requirement, Obeka can be considered slow to hit the battlefield. While her effect is potent, players may find her impact on the game delayed in comparison to other three or four mana commanders that provide immediate board presence or value.

Reasons to Include Obeka Brute Chronologist in Your Collection

Versatility: Obeka Brute Chronologist provides flexibility in gameplay, allowing you to end the turn prematurely. This utility can be an advantage across various deck types, particularly ones that leverage end-of-turn effects or need to dodge detrimental triggers.

Combo Potential: With the ability to manipulate the end step, Obeka pairs well with cards that have negative end-of-turn triggers or cumulative upkeep costs. Capitalize on powerful effects without the downside, creating potent interactions unique to this commander.

Meta-Relevance: In a meta that often revolves around maximizing turn efficiency, Obeka can disrupt opponents’ strategies by skipping unwanted phases or triggers. This keeps your strategy one step ahead, especially in commander games where each player’s turn sequence is critically important.

How to beat

Obeka, Brute Chronologist serves as a formidable centerpiece in decks focused on manipulating time and turns within the game of Magic: The Gathering. By ending the turn at will, this legendary creature allows players to circumvent negative effects that would normally take place during the end step. To counteract Obeka’s unique ability, effective strategies involve removing her from the battlefield before her power can be utilized. Spells that can bypass her ability by not targeting or by providing their effect in an unavoidable way, such as board wipes or global removal effects, are particularly useful.

Additionally, taking advantage of moments when Obeka’s ability can’t be activated—such as when the player controlling her is tapped out or during your turn—is key. Employing instant-speed interaction ensures you have the opportunity to disrupt your opponent’s plans. Furthermore, since Obeka’s ability can also be turned against her controller with clever timing, knowing the deck you’re up against and anticipating when to act can shift the tide in your favor when facing this powerful commander.

To sum up, while Obeka’s time-twisting capability can challenge many strategies, careful planning and smart card choices can mitigate her impact on the game and secure you a win.

Cartas similares a Obeka, Cronologista Bruta

In the wide universe of MTG, the beguiling abilities of Obeka, Brute Chronologist pose an intriguing similarity to time-manipulating cards such as Time Stop. Where Obeka shines is in her unique ability to end the turn at will, shielding your strategies from unwanted interference. Time Stop also terminates turns, but it’s a one-time use card, while Obeka offers repeatable use throughout the game.

Comparatively, cards like Sundial of the Infinite are akin to Obeka’s effect, allowing players to end turns as a preventative measure but requiring a mana investment each time. Obeka’s advantage is her implicit threat on the board, ready to cease any turn when strategically favorable. Discontinuity shares this abrupt turn-ending effect, but as an instant, it can be a surprise play that players may not see coming, unlike the predictable nature of a permanent like Obeka on the field.

In essence, Obeka, Brute Chronologist presents players with a commanding blend of control and repeatability that sets her apart from similar MTG cards. Her persistent board presence provides a tactical advantage that can be leveraged multiple times, surpassing the one-and-done style of her counterparts.

Data Texto
2020-11-10 Ending the turn this way means the following things happen in order: 1) All spells and abilities on the stack are exiled. This includes spells and abilities that can't be countered. 2) If there are any attacking and blocking creatures, they're removed from combat. 3) State-based actions are checked. No player gets priority, and no triggered abilities are put onto the stack. 4) The current phase and/or step ends. The game skips straight to the cleanup step. 5) The cleanup step happens in its entirety.
2020-11-10 If any triggered abilities do trigger during this process, they're put onto the stack during the cleanup step. If this happens, players will have a chance to cast spells and activate abilities, then there will be another cleanup step before the turn is over.
2020-11-10 If the turn ends before the end step, any "At the beginning of the next end step" triggered abilities won't get the chance to trigger that turn because the end step has been skipped. Those abilities will trigger next turn at the beginning of the end step.
2020-11-10 If the turn ends during the end step after "At the beginning of the next end step" abilities have triggered but before they've resolved, those abilities won't trigger again next turn.
