Card Pros

Card Advantage: Moritte of the Frost can clone any permanent you control, essentially letting you double up on the most advantageous card on your battlefield. This not only increases your board presence but can potentially give you another chance to utilize enter-the-battlefield effects, leading to significant card advantage over the course of a game.

Resource Acceleration: By copying a mana-producing creature or artifact, Moritte of the Frost can act as a form of resource acceleration. It enhances your mana pool, allowing you to cast more spells or use activated abilities sooner, catalyzing your game plan towards victory.

Instant Speed: Although Moritte itself is not an instant, it can copy creatures with flash, effectively allowing you to surprise your opponent by bringing in substantial threats or capabilities at instant speed. This flexibility can shift the momentum of the game, keeping your adversaries on their toes.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: When considering Moritte of the Frost, players should be mindful that replicating certain spells may necessitate discarding, a condition which could be detrimental if you’re managing a tight hand.

Specific Mana Cost: Moritte’s casting requires a precise combination of mana, one blue and one green along with three other, which might not seamlessly fit into every deck’s mana base, potentially hindering deck versatility.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: With a cast cost totaling five mana, Moritte competes with other high-impact cards that could be played sooner or offer greater immediate value, posing a disadvantage in fast-paced games where efficiency is key.

Reasons to Include Moritte of the Frost in Your Collection

Versatility: Moritte of the Frost is not only a flexible shape-shifter but its ability to clone any permanent you control makes it a dynamic addition to your arsenal. It can adapt to various board states and strategies, providing consistent value in a wide range of decks.

Combo Potential: With the capability to copy the most impactful creatures or artifacts on your side, Moritte of the Frost can amplify combo strategies by doubling up on key pieces, or even creating new synergies on the fly.

Meta-Relevance: As the MTG meta shifts, Moritte of the Frost remains relevant due to its inherent ability to mimic the most powerful permanents in the game. Whether you face aggressive, combo, or control decks, this card’s chameleon-like nature ensures it always has a place in the evolving meta.

How to beat

Moritte of the Frost is a versatile changeling card in Magic: The Gathering with the potential to copy any permanent on the battleground. Its inherent ability to adapt makes it a crafty component of any deck, especially when combined with creatures with powerful enter-the-battlefield effects. It mirrors the complexity of clones such as Clever Impersonator or Spark Double, yet brings its unique twist with the changeling trait and the capability to copy not just creatures but any permanent type.

To counter Moritte of the Frost, removal spells that exile, such as Path to Exile or Swords to Plowshares, are optimal as they prevent the copied abilities from triggering. Graveyard disruption can also be a key strategy; cards like Rest in Peace or Relic of Progenitus eliminate the option of Moritte copying from the graveyard. Players must be proactive in anticipating their opponent’s key permanents and removing or altering them before Moritte can capitalize on their abilities.

Ultimately, successful navigation against Moritte of the Frost in MTG requires a mixture of foresight, disruption, and precise timing. Recognizing the most impactful targets and keeping a keen eye on graveyard activities heightens your advantage, ensuring Moritte’s copying ability never turns the tides against you.

Moritte of the Frost gains attention within the Magic: The Gathering world with its versatile cloning ability. Pitting it against cards like Clone or Spark Double reveals some nuanced differences. Clone notably jumps into the battlefield as a copy of any creature on the field. However, its possibilities end there. Spark Double adds a bit more flair by copying a creature or planeswalker you control, plus it receives an additional +1/+1 counter or loyalty counter if it’s not a copy of a planeswalker.

When we introduce Moritte of the Frost, the card brings a fresh dynamic to the table. Not only can it clone creatures, but it can also copy any permanent you control that isn’t a land—be it an enchantment, artifact, or even saga—giving it a wider range of targets. Moreover, it automatically gets two +1/+1 counters and any abilities of the snow permanent it copies. This makes Moritte of the Frost a powerful and flexible option for players looking to amplify their strategies.

In essence, Moritte of the Frost stands out as a formidable player in the cloning game. It delivers multifaceted utility and a snow-specific advantage that allows it to carve out its own icy niche in Magic: The Gathering.

Regras e informações

O guia de referência para regras de cartas de Magic: The Gathering Moritte da Geada fornece decisões oficiais, quaisquer erratas emitidas, bem como um registro de todas as modificações funcionais que ocorreram.

Data Texto
2021-02-05 Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied permanent will trigger when Moritte enters the battlefield. Any “as
-his permanent] enters the battlefield” or “
-his permanent] enters the battlefield with” abilities of the chosen permanent will also work.
2021-02-05 Changeling is a characteristic-defining ability. It functions in all zones, not only while a card that has it is on the battlefield.
2021-02-05 If Moritte copies a creature, it enters with two +1/+1 counters on it, plus any counters that will be put on it by abilities it copied or abilities of other objects.
2021-02-05 If Moritte copies a nonlegendary permanent, you’ll control two permanents with same name, but only one of them (Moritte) will be legendary. You won’t put any of them into their owner’s graveyard.
2021-02-05 If Moritte somehow enters the battlefield at the same time as another permanent, it can’t become a copy of that permanent. You may choose only a permanent that’s already on the battlefield.
2021-02-05 If an effect causes a creature with changeling to become a new creature type, it will be only that new creature type. It will still have changeling; the effect making it all creature types will simply be overwritten.
2021-02-05 If an effect causes a creature with changeling to lose all abilities, it will remain all creature types, even though it will no longer have changeling. This is because changeling applies before the effect that removes it.
2021-02-05 If the chosen permanent has in its mana cost, X is considered to be 0.
2021-02-05 If the chosen permanent is a token, Moritte copies the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that created the token. Moritte doesn’t become a token in this case.
2021-02-05 If the chosen permanent is copying something else, Moritte will use the copiable values of the chosen permanent. In most cases, it will be a copy of whatever the chosen permanent is copying. If it’s copying a permanent or card with in its mana cost, X is 0.
2021-02-05 If the copied permanent is affected by a type-changing effect, Moritte may enter the battlefield with different permanent types than the copied permanent currently has. Use the characteristics of Moritte as it enters the battlefield, not of the copied permanent, to determine whether it enters with an additional counter on it. Notably, if Moritte copies a permanent that’s normally not a creature but has been made a creature by another effect, Moritte enters as a noncreature permanent that doesn’t get +1/+1 counters or have changeling.
2021-02-05 Moritte copies exactly what was printed on the original permanent (unless that permanent is copying something else or is a token; see below). It doesn’t copy whether that permanent is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it, whether it has any Auras and/or Equipment attached to it, or any non-copy effects that changed its power, toughness, types, color, and so on.
2021-02-05 Snow is a supertype, not a card type. It has no rules meaning or function by itself, but spells and abilities may refer to it.
2021-02-05 Snow isn’t a type of mana. If an effect says you may spend mana as though it were any type, you can’t pay for {S} using mana that wasn’t produced by a snow source.
2021-02-05 Some cards have additional effects for each {S} spent to cast them. You can cast these spells even if you don’t spend any snow mana to cast them; their additional effects simply won’t do anything.
2021-02-05 The Kaldheim set doesn’t have any cards with mana costs that include {S}, but some previous sets do. If an effect says such a spell costs less to cast, that reduction doesn’t apply to any {S} costs. This is also true for activated abilities that include {S} in their activation costs and effects that reduce those costs.
2021-02-05 The subtype Shapeshifter that appears on the type line is mostly there to reinforce the flavor. A creature card with changeling is just as much an Elf, a Dwarf, a Sliver, a Goat, a Coward, and a Zombie as it is a Shapeshifter.
2021-02-05 The {S} symbol is a generic mana symbol. It represents a cost that can be paid by one mana that was produced by a snow source. That mana can be any color or colorless.
