Clever Concealment offers Magic: The Gathering players a stealthy way to safeguard their permanents. It shares space with cards like Teferi’s Time Twist, which also provides protection by exiling a creature or artifact until the end of turn. While Clever Concealment affects all nonland permanents you control, offering collective evasion, Teferi’s Time Twist targets individual permanents, yet it brings the added boon of countering adverse effects by entering the battlefield with an additional counter.

Ghostway is another interesting comparison, it’s a blanket solution that exiles all your creatures, much like Clever Concealment, but doesn’t touch your other nonland permanents. Ghostway can be used defensively like Clever Concealment, but the latter’s broader reach could be the difference between victory and defeat in a well-fortified board state.

In evaluating Clever Concealment against its peers, its mass protect-and-conceal capability stands out. Especially suited for decks that spread wide across various permanent types, it can be pivotal in maintaining a formidable presence on the board, making it a unique tool in a player’s strategic arsenal.

Card Pros

Card Advantage: With Clever Concealment, strategically improving your hand while controlling the flow of the game becomes easier. The beauty of this card lies in its offering more than just a solitary draw. Sifting through your deck and choosing the optimal card elevates the level of strategy in your matches.

Resource Acceleration: Besides fine-tuning your hand, Clever Concealment aids in resource management by potentially lowering the cost of spells. This can act as a catalyst for a pivotal turn, providing an unforeseen edge against opponents through a dynamic, cost-effective strategy.

Instant Speed: The versatility of Clever Concealment shines at instant speed, offering a quick response or a surprise element during an opponent’s turn. Such flexibility allows for adept battlefield adaptation, positioning you one step ahead in the game’s strategic dance.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: Clever Concealment necessitates the player to discard a card, which can be a strategic setback when hand size is already compromised or when holding onto key pieces of a combo.

Specific Mana Cost: Its casting requirement of specific mana types restricts its integration, making it an imperfect fit for decks that run a broader color palette and necessitating a mana base tailored to accommodate it.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: With its mana cost set at a premium, it contends with other cards that can provide stealth or protection for creatures at a more economical rate, potentially making it a less attractive choice for deck inclusion where efficiency is paramount.

Reasons to Include Clever Concealment in Your Collection

Versatility: Clever Concealment offers a degree of flexibility that can be critical for many decks. Its ability to efficiently conceal key pieces from disruption or set up surprise interactions makes it a versatile inclusion for both casual and competitive play.

Combo Potential: This card can serve as an enabler for decks that revolve around surprising the opponent with powerful combo plays. It can also protect critical combo pieces until the moment is right, significantly increasing the consistency of your strategy.

Meta-Relevance: The shifting nature of the meta often rewards players who can adapt their tactics on the fly. Clever Concealment aligns perfectly with this philosophy, as it can counter many popular strategies by saving your most important cards from targeted removal or board wipes.

How to beat

Clever Concealment is an intriguing MTG card that offers players the ability to protect their valuable permanents from being targeted by spells or abilities. Its application can significantly alter the battlefield, shielding key pieces from removal or interference. Overcoming this obstacle requires a shift in strategy, preferably one that involves mass removal or board wipes. Since Clever Concealment typically guards against targeted effects, sweeping board clears like Wrath of God or Damnation can bypass this protection, efficiently removing the concealed permanents along with the rest.

Another effective approach is to utilize spells that force opponents to sacrifice permanents. These bypass the hexproof attribute granted by Clever Concealment as they do not target individual cards. Edict effects like Diabolic Edict or Liliana of the Veil’s sacrifice ability are prime examples of such tactics. Additionally, taking advantage of cards that change control of permanents can also negate the effectiveness of this protective spell, as taking control usually doesn’t involve targeting. In essence, refining your deck to include non-targeting removal options can significantly increase your chances of outplaying opponents leveraging the stealthy strength of Clever Concealment.

BurnMana Recommendations

Mastering the intricacies of MTG involves not just knowing your cards but understanding when and how to play them—Clever Concealment exemplifies this principle. Its nuanced benefits, like card advantage and resource acceleration, add layers to your strategy, while its instant speed allows for reactive plays that can pivot the tide of battle. Despite its potential drawbacks, such as the discard requirement, Clever Concealment’s versatility makes it worth considering for your deck, especially in a meta where adaptability is key. We invite you to deepen your game tactics by learning more about this and similar strategic cards. Enhance your lineup and shield your permanents hidden in the shadows of victory.

Data Texto
2023-02-04 An attacking or blocking creature that phases out is removed from combat.
2023-02-04 Any continuous effects with a "for as long as" duration, such as that of Mind Flayer, ignore phased-out objects. If ignoring those objects causes the effect's conditions to no longer be met, the duration will expire.
2023-02-04 As a permanent is phased out, Auras and Equipment attached to it also phase out at the same time. Those Auras and Equipment will phase in at the same time that permanent does, and they'll phase in still attached to that permanent.
2023-02-04 Choices made for permanents as they entered the battlefield are remembered when they phase in.
2023-02-04 Permanents phase back in during their controller's untap step, immediately before that player untaps their permanents. Creatures that phase in this way are able to attack and pay a cost of during that turn. If a permanent had counters on it when it phased out, it will have those counters when it phases back in.
2023-02-04 Phased out permanents are treated as though they don't exist. They can't be the target of spells or abilities, their static abilities have no effect on the game, their triggered abilities can't trigger, they can't attack or block, and so on.
2023-02-04 Phasing out doesn't cause permanents to leave or re-enter the battlefield, so no "leaves the battlefield" or "enters the battlefield" abilities will trigger.
