Texto da carta

Oozes you control get +1/+1. At the beginning of your upkeep, if you control a commander, create a token that's a copy of Biowaste Blob.

Card Pros

Card Advantage: Biowaste Blob thrives off of the presence of other Oozes, allowing you to bolster your field presence without expending extra cards. Each upkeep, if you control a creature with a different name, it creates a token that’s a copy of itself, effectively doubling the threat each turn and setting you up for an imposing board state that can overwhelm your opponents.

Resource Acceleration: With Biowaste Blob’s ability to replicate itself, it offers a unique form of resource acceleration. Each new token can be considered an additional resource that didn’t cost you a card from your hand. This growth can rapidly expand your available offensive and defensive resources, letting you stay ahead on the board.

Instant Speed: While Biowaste Blob itself is not an instant-speed card, it synergizes well with instant-speed spells that can manipulate counters or provide protection. During your upkeep, before the Blob’s ability resolves, you can utilize instants to adjust the state of the board or safeguard your Blob, ensuring that its replication ability triggers. By smartly managing your instant-speed spells, your Blob becomes not only a recurring threat but also a robust utility play.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: Biowaste Blob doesn’t directly demand discarding cards, however, its reliance on the proliferate mechanic often necessitates additional card plays to capitalize on its ability. This can indirectly cause a depletion of your hand if not managed carefully.

Specific Mana Cost: Requiring both green mana and generic mana, Biowaste Blob’s casting cost may present a challenge in multicolored decks that are not heavily skewed towards green.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: At a cost of four mana, Biowaste Blob isn’t the most mana-efficient creature you could deploy. For the same or less mana, other options could provide immediate board presence or effects without the preliminary setup Biowaste Blob relies on.

Reasons to Include Biowaste Blob in Your Collection

Versatility: Biowaste Blob provides play flexibility, thriving in commander decks focused on +1/+1 counters. Its ability to grow every upkeep turns it into a continually scaling threat.

Combo Potential: In decks that proliferate or double counters, Biowaste Blob can become explosively powerful, synergizing with other counter-centric cards for potential game-ending combinations.

Meta-Relevance: With the shifting nature of MTG’s meta, Biowaste Blob has a place in games where longer plays and creature advantages determine the winner, making it a relevant choice for many players.

How to Beat

Biowaste Blob stands out as a potent force in Magic: The Gathering, particularly in decks constructed around the Ooze tribe. Its power lies in its ability to grow progressively stronger each turn, provided you control an Ooze, which can be a boon for Ooze-centric strategies. However, this escalating threat can be managed with timely removal or containment strategies.

Key tactics include prompt removal spells that can target Biowaste Blob before it becomes too large, such as Path to Exile or Fatal Push, depending on the Blob’s power. Enchantment-based removal like Banishing Light or Oblivion Ring also provides a one-size-fits-all solution. For a more lasting resolution, cards that prevent counter accumulation, such as Solemnity, can effectively neutralize the Blob’s growing advantage. In multiplayer games, political maneuvers can also play a role; convincing opponents that the growing Blob poses a shared threat might spur collaborative efforts to keep it in check.

Successfully managing a Biowaste Blob requires foresight and readiness to deal with burgeoning threats. By integrating removal and control elements strategically within your deck, you can ensure that this slimy adversary doesn’t overrun your game.

Biowaste Blob holds its own within Magic: The Gathering’s array of quirky and adaptive creatures. It finds a parallel in Scute Mob, another creature that grows stronger during your upkeep, provided certain conditions on the battlefield are met. Where Biowaste Blob requires you to control an Ooze, which subsequently doubles its +1/+1 counters, Scute Mob flourishes with land count, gaining counters when you have at least five lands.

Slimefoot, the Stowaway offers another resemblance, thriving on a synergetic relationship with other creatures of its kind. While it doesn’t expand in size like the Blob, it rewards you whenever your Saprolings die, offering both damage to your opponents and life gain for you. In terms of expansion and replicated effects, there is also the parallel with Mycoloth, a devourer of creatures that later multiplies its investment by creating Saproling tokens every upkeep.

When considering the strengths of Biowaste Blob, it fares well with its capacity to become a formidable force on the board while also generating copies of itself, inching its way to becoming an MTG favorite for fans of incremental growth and creature-based strategies.

Data Texto
2020-11-10 Biowaste Blob's first ability affects itself.
2020-11-10 Biowaste Blob's second ability doesn't trigger if you don't control a commander immediately as your upkeep begins. Players can't choose to take actions during your turn before your upkeep begins. If you don't control a commander when the trigger resolves, it won't create a token. These don't have to be the same commander at both times, however, and it doesn't have to be your commander.
2020-11-10 If Biowaste Blob leaves the battlefield before its triggered ability resolves, the token will still enter the battlefield as a copy of Biowaste Blob, using Biowaste Blob's copiable values from when it was last on the battlefield.
2020-11-10 The token copy will have Biowaste Blob's abilities, including the ability to create token copies of itself.
2020-11-10 The token copy won't copy counters or damage marked on Biowaste Blob, nor will it copy other effects that have changed Biowaste Blob's power, toughness, types, color, and so on. Normally, this means the token will simply be a Biowaste Blob, but if any copy effects have affected the original Biowaste Blob, the token will take those into account.
