Card Pros

Card Advantage: With Back for More, you not only bring a creature back from the graveyard to the battlefield but also get to use its combat abilities straight away, potentially removing an opponent’s creature at the same time. This dual benefit ensures you stay ahead in card utility and board presence.

Resource Acceleration: While Back for More doesn’t directly accelerate your resources, it effectively saves mana and card space in your deck by combining reanimation with removal. Getting the most out of each card is crucial, and this card excels at doing more with less.

Instant Speed: The true power of Back for More lies in its instant speed. This enables surprise interactions during your opponent’s turn or at the end of their turn, ensuring maximum impact and potentially swinging the game in your favor when least expected.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: Back for More demands that you pitch another card into your graveyard to activate its effect. This can backfire if your hand is thin or the discarded card is vital for your strategy.

Specific Mana Cost: This card’s cost is locked into the black and green mana, making it less fluid for decks that don’t run these colors smoothly. Players without a strong mana base matching these requirements might struggle to cast it effectively.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: With a total cost of six mana, Back for More sits at the higher end of the curve. While its ability to bring creatures back from the graveyard may seem appealing, the mana investment is considerable, especially when similar effects are available for less.

Reasons to Include Back for More in Your Collection

Versatility: Back for More allows players to strategically return creatures from their graveyard to the battlefield, offering immediate impact in games. This card can seamlessly integrate into reanimator or graveyard-focused decks and also serves as a surprise element in midrange builds.

Combo Potential: With Back for More, the opportunities to combine it with high-powered creatures featuring enter-the-battlefield effects or creatures that benefit from being cycled through the graveyard are vast. This enhances synergy and can create powerful, game-altering combos.

Meta-Relevance: Given the cycling nature of MTG’s meta, Back for More can be particularly useful in environments where graveyard manipulation is prevalent. It’s a card that can turn the tides when facing against aggressive or tempo decks by bringing back a substantial blocker or a creature with a potent ability.

How to beat

Overcoming Back for More, a card known for its instantaneous creature return and combat trick potential, can be crucial in your game strategy. To counteract this card, one should monitor graveyard activity closely, being wary of the behemoths that lie dormant within. Graveyard disruption plays a pivotal role in dismantling strategies that lean on Back for More’s effect. Cards that exile target creature cards from graveyards, like Scavenging Ooze, render it ineffective and can thwart an opponent’s plan.

Moreover, utilizing counterspells adeptly can neutralize the threat before it even manifests on the battlefield. Instant-speed removal can be another line of defense, prepared to address the creature brought back irrespective of Back for More’s buff. With proper timing, such tactics not only waste your opponent’s card but can also swing the momentum in your favor.

Additionally, effects that restrict the types of spells opponents can cast, like Drannith Magistrate, stifle Back for More’s revival ambitions, safeguarding your game from an unexpected creature onslaught. Understanding and deploying these strategic counters provides you with the tools to derail the sudden return from the Graveyard, keeping you one step ahead in Magic: The Gathering matches.

Back for More is an intriguing reanimation spell in the realm of Magic: The Gathering. It shows similarities to Zombify, a classic card that brings creatures back from the graveyard to the battlefield. However, Back for More provides an additional benefit by allowing the creature to fight an opponent’s creature as it enters play, giving you a potential two-for-one advantage.

Loyal to the concept of reanimation, we have Unburial Rites. This card not only allows you to return a creature to play, but with its flashback ability, it grants a second chance to animate another fallen beast from your graveyard. Though lacking the on-entry combat interaction that Back for More offers, the flexibility of a second use cannot be overlooked.

Then, examining Bond of Revival, a powerful piece as well, we notice that it also revives a creature and grants it haste, letting it attack or use tap abilities immediately. While haste is impactful, negating Back for More’s fight mechanic changes the tactical outcome of the reanimation process.

Comparing these with Back for More shines a light on the unique tactical niche it occupies within the reanimation archetype, merging resurrection with immediate board impact in Magic: The Gathering.

Data Texto
2020-04-17 As you cast Back for More, it targets only a creature card in your graveyard. While the spell is resolving, you return the target card to the battlefield. When you do, the reflexive triggered ability triggers and you pick a target to fight. This is different from effects that say “If you do . . .” in that you can return a creature card to the battlefield without a legal target to fight.
2020-04-17 If the target creature is an illegal target when the reflexive triggered ability tries to resolve, the ability doesn’t resolve. If the creature you put onto the battlefield is no longer on the battlefield or no longer a creature, the target creature won’t deal or be dealt damage.
2020-04-17 The reflexive triggered ability from Back for More is put onto the stack at the same time as any other triggered abilities caused by the creature entering the battlefield.
