Card Pros

Card Advantage: Frost Augur offers a reliable mechanism to sift through your deck by revealing cards from the top. This ability can be a game-changer as it steadily provides additional options and potentially leads to more optimal plays each turn.

Resource Acceleration: Though not directly impacting your mana pool, the ability of Frost Augur to consistently provide card selection ensures that you’re more likely to draw into your deck’s resource accelerators or key spells that keep your game plan moving swiftly forward.

Instant Speed: The prowess of Frost Augur is in its activation at instant speed. This flexibility allows players to utilize their mana efficiently during the end step of the opponent’s turn, thus maintaining tempo and potentially catching their opponent off guard with an unexpected card draw.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: Frost Augur necessitates a card from your hand to be discarded to activate its ability. This can be a challenging demand, especially when you’re running low on cards and each one is of high importance to maintain an edge in the game.

Specific Mana Cost: Frost Augur’s activation is locked behind a snow mana requirement. This means only a snow land can fulfill the cost, which can be limiting as it requires deck building around snow lands to ensure consistent usage.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: Given its ability, Frost Augur may seem cost-intensive. Some players might find that there are alternative cards that could be more mana-efficient for the purpose of drawing cards or gaining a tactical advantage in a match.

Reasons to Include Frost Augur in Your Collection

Versatility: Frost Augur’s ability to provide consistent card advantage by revealing snow cards from the top of your deck makes it a useful addition to decks focused on snow mechanics. This small creature effortlessly integrates with various build strategies that capitalize on snow synergies.

Combo Potential: This card shines in combinations that revolve around snow permanents. Its low casting cost allows for early game board presence and its ability can help chain into bigger plays by ensuring a steady flow of snow cards to your hand, fueling your combo engines.

Meta-Relevance: In environments where snow-based decks are popular or competitive, Frost Augur becomes an essential piece to leverage. Its ability to dig through your deck for snow cards can tilt the game in your favor, especially against decks that are not prepared to handle the consistent advantage it provides.

How to beat

Frost Augur is a unique Snow creature in MTG that gives players the potential to gain card advantage by peeking at the top card of their library. Notably, this ability only triggers with a Snow land on the battlefield and requires the top card to be a Snow card as well. The card’s specificity to Snow means its power is directly tied to the presence of Snow lands and Snow permanents within a deck.

Countering Frost Augur’s advantage centers on limiting its ability to operate efficiently. Removing Snow lands from play or preventing them from untapping hampers the Augur’s capacity to dig for more Snow cards. Strategies that focus on land destruction or land tapping can be particularly effective. Additionally, utilizing graveyard manipulation spells to disrupt what ends up on top of the player’s library can also negate Frost Augur’s benefits.

Ultimately, Frost Augur’s efficacy is dependent on a Snow-heavy deck, ensuring your strategy is attentive to restraining Snow synergies and resources will diminish the impact this creature can have on the game’s outcome.

Cartas similares a Áugure do Gelo

Frost Augur is an intriguing piece in the field of card advantage in MTG, reminding us of the utility creatures often used for information gain and resource replenishment. Like Frost Augur, Ice-Fang Coatl offers card draw with an additional benefit — Deathtouch, provided you control at least three other snow permanents. However, while Frost Augur requires a specific deck build around snow lands and spells, Ice-Fang Coatl has a broader utility in various decks due to its evasion and potential combat advantage.

Another card that comes to mind is Augur of Bolas. This card digs through the deck to reveal an instant or sorcery card, but where it diverges from Frost Augur is in its lack of restriction to the snow supertype. However, Frost Augur’s ability to potentially draw a card every turn gives it a leg up in decks crafted to maximize the probability of hitting a snow card.

Ultimately, Frost Augur attracts players who are dedicated to snow-themed decks. The continuous card draw potential that it presents in the right deck can provide a steady stream of resources, setting it apart in snow-centric strategies within MTG.

Data Texto
2021-02-05 Snow is a supertype, not a card type. It has no rules meaning or function by itself, but spells and abilities may refer to it.
2021-02-05 Snow isn’t a type of mana. If an effect says you may spend mana as though it were any type, you can’t pay for {S} using mana that wasn’t produced by a snow source.
2021-02-05 Some cards have additional effects for each {S} spent to cast them. You can cast these spells even if you don’t spend any snow mana to cast them; their additional effects simply won’t do anything.
2021-02-05 The Kaldheim set doesn’t have any cards with mana costs that include {S}, but some previous sets do. If an effect says such a spell costs less to cast, that reduction doesn’t apply to any {S} costs. This is also true for activated abilities that include {S} in their activation costs and effects that reduce those costs.
2021-02-05 The {S} symbol is a generic mana symbol. It represents a cost that can be paid by one mana that was produced by a snow source. That mana can be any color or colorless.
