Flying When Brago, King Eternal deals combat damage to a player, exile any number of target nonland permanents you control, then return those cards to the battlefield under their owner's control.

"My rule persists beyond death itself."

Unveiling the Pros of Brago, King Eternal

Card Advantage: Brago, King Eternal showcases his throne’s power by enabling advantageous bounces of your own permanents. With each direct attack, this permits you to enjoy a flurry of re-entries and stack their associated abilities. It effectively allows you to proliferate drawing cards for achieving a superior position in your gameplay.

Resource Acceleration: In the realm of MTG, the manipulation of resources can sway the pendulum of the game. Brago, with his broad wings, breaks resources constraints. By facilitating the use of your permanents again after his attack phase, mana and other assets accelerate, boosting the efficiency of your gaming resources.

Instant Speed: Brago excels in quick multi-tasking. Timing his attack can turn the tide of the game in a heartbeat. Utilize his ability at the right moment to blink your assets, unleashing a torrent of benefits at an instantaneous speed. This can effectively keep your opponents off-balance and guessing, contributing to your strategic victory.

Limitations of Brago King Eternal

Discard Requirement: One major drawback of Brago King Eternal MTG is that it may require you to discard your card. This proves to be a notable disadvantage, especially during situations where your available resources are dwindling.

Specific Mana Cost: Unlike many other cards in the MTG universe, Brago King Eternal requires a specific combination of colors for activation. This strict mana requirement could potentially limit the types of decks with which it could be optimally utilized.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: Ranking high on the mana cost dimension, Brago King Eternal outprices many other cards. Players with smaller mana reserves may find this drain significant and possibly restrictive, informing their deck-building strategies and in-game decisions.

Reasons to Include Brago King Eternal in Your Collection

Versatility: The key strength of Brago King Eternal is his versatility. This spirit monarch can integrate smoothly into many blue-white control or flicker decks. His ability to ‘blink’ or temporarily exile other creatures and artifacts is a valuable asset, helping to bypass negative conditions and refresh the board position.

Combo Potential: King Eternal offers immense combo potential, especially in conjunction with cards that have powerful enter the battlefield effects. By leveraging Brago’s ability to reset these cards, players can create a continuous cycle of effects, potentially gaining insurmountable advantage over opponents.

Meta-Relevance: In a metagame often dominated by high-impact, single-card strategies, Brago’s ability to repeatedly nullify adverse effects and generate recurring advantages can prove highly relevant. His capacity to craft a battlefield to his advantage creates a dynamic and engaging gameplay, proving why Brago King Eternal is a must-have for any MTG enthusiast.

Similar Cards

When assessing Brago, King Eternal, the MTG arena brims with relevant comparisons that enlighten the player on the strategic value of this unique card. Its strength resides in its blink or “flicker” mechanic, which echoes in cards like Roon of the Hidden Realm and Deadeye Navigator.

These counterparts generate similar tactics by enabling the player to reuse enter-the-battlefield (ETB) abilities. However, where Brago excels is the scale of its effect. While the others require individual targets or higher mana costs, Brago’s ability is potentially prolific, affecting all your non-lands in one fell swoop at no additional cost.

Moreover, Brago’s royal kin, Derevi, Empyrial Tactician, also deserves a mention. Both these blue-white fliers share a proactive approach to tapping and untapping potential. Yet, Derevi lacks Brago’s broad ETB ability recycling, focusing rather on individual permanents. Brago, thus, brings to the table a unique balance of cost, effect range and potential for mass maneuvere that sets it apart as a valuable tool in the MTG game dynamics.

How to Beat Brago King Eternal

A common obstacle prospective monarchs face in MTG is overcoming the rule of Brago, King Eternal. A powerful addition to any Commander deck, Brago, King Eternal combines blue’s control with white’s fences. Brago possesses the capability to “blink” or exile and then immediately return your nonland permanents to the battlefield, activating their desired effects.

Dealing with Brago involves creative strategies. Nullifying his attack, which triggers his ‘flicker’ ability, is one such tactic. Cards such as Ghostly Prison deter attacks. Alternatively, introducing cards with the reach ability, like Silklash Spider, can be an effective counter too.

Another approach involves limiting Brago’s blink ability. Utilizing cards like Torpor Orb that stop triggers from happening or Hushbringer that prevent creatures entering the battlefield from causing abilities can be helpful. Effects that prevent Brago from activating his abilities, such as Phyrexian Revoker or Pithing Needle, can also offer a strategic advantage.

Ultimately, coping with a commander like Brago King Eternal requires a blend of preparation, expertise, and creativity. The right deck, patience, and understanding can indeed change the direction of the game.

DateText
2020-11-10 Brago's last ability exiles and returns all the targets during the combat damage step, after combat damage is dealt. You can't target any creature that didn't survive combat.
2020-11-10 If you exile an Aura with Brago's last ability, the Aura's owner chooses what it will enchant as it comes back onto the battlefield. An Aura put onto the battlefield this way doesn't target anything (so it could be attached to an opponent's permanent with hexproof, for example), but the Aura's enchant ability restricts what it can be attached to. The Aura can't enter the battlefield enchanting a permanent that enters the battlefield at the same time. If the Aura can't legally be attached to anything, it remains exiled.
2020-11-10 You may exile and return Brago using its own ability.
