Card Pros

Card Advantage: Space Beleren is a powerhouse when it comes to drawing cards. This ability ensures you always have options in hand, keeping you steps ahead of your opponent.

Resource Acceleration: The activation of Space Beleren can accelerate your resources significantly, enabling larger, more impactful plays earlier in the game than usual.

Instant Speed: With its capability to be played at instant speed, Space Beleren allows for strategic depth, offering the opportunity to respond to opponents’ plays or maximize your own turn efficiency.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: Space Beleren’s gameplay often hinges on discarding a card, which may accelerate card depletion and disadvantage players holding pivotal late-game cards.

Specific Mana Cost: Its unique mana requirements can be a hurdle, demanding a commitment to particular color combinations and potentially clashing with a player’s existing mana base.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: When examining the cost-benefit ratio, Space Beleren might falter. With a relatively steep mana cost for its abilities, players might find alternative cards offering similar perks with less mana investment.

Reasons to Include Space Beleren in Your Collection

Versatility: Space Beleren offers a flexible role across various deck archetypes given its capability to influence both the pace and direction of gameplay. This card can seamlessly integrate into control decks or enhance the strategies of combo-centric builds.

Combo Potential: With Space Beleren’s unique effects on the stack and the ability to manipulate both players’ hands, it creates numerous opportunities for synergistic plays. Its interaction with other cards can unlock powerful combinations that can alter the game’s outcome in your favor.

Meta-Relevance: Given that game environments fluctuate, Space Beleren maintains its relevance. It can adapt to shifting metas, providing players with an edge against a diverse range of opposing strategies by offering card advantage or disrupting opponents’ plans.

How to beat Space Beleren

Space Beleren is an enigmatic addition to the realm of planeswalkers in Magic: The Gathering, designed to influence the flow of the game with its unique abilities. To overcome this card, players must be strategic in their approach. One effective tactic is to focus on rapidly developing board presence, thereby putting pressure on your opponent and forcing them to deal with your threats, rather than building up Space Beleren’s abilities.

Diversifying threats is also crucial. Instead of relying on a single creature, aim to cultivate a variety of creatures and threats that demand answers. This approach reduces the impact Space Beleren can have by compelling your opponent to deal with multiple problems simultaneously. Moreover, direct damage spells, such as Lightning Bolt, and abilities that can target planeswalkers directly are invaluable tools in your arsenal for managing Space Beleren before it accumulates too much loyalty and tilts the game in your opponent’s favor.

Overall, the key to overcoming Space Beleren lies in proactive gameplay, diversification of threats, and being aware of the specific opportunities within your deck to neutralize or bypass this formidable planeswalker’s influence on the battlefield. By implementing these strategies, you can ensure Space Beleren’s spacetime manipulation doesn’t decide the outcome of the match.

Cards like Space Beleren

Space Beleren is a unique entry among the pantheon of planeswalkers in Magic: The Gathering. Its counterparts include the likes of Jace Beleren, often seen as the standard bearer for blue planeswalkers. Jace Beleren’s ability to consistently draw cards gives it a solid place in card advantage strategies. Although Space Beleren retains the card draw aspect, it offers a different dynamic due to its emphasis on the new space-themed mechanics.

We could also draw parallels between Space Beleren and Teferi, Time Raveler. Both planeswalkers bring a twist on card interaction and tempo control, but Space Beleren blends this with a cosmic flair that stands out in gameplay. While Teferi enjoys widespread popularity for its utility and disruption capacities, Space Beleren invites a new strategic depth with its synergy with the space-themed set.

To sum up, while veterans like Jace Beleren and Teferi offer tried and tested functionality, Space Beleren carves its niche with fresh mechanics, inviting players to explore new horizons in deck building and game dynamics within Magic: The Gathering’s ever-expansive multiverse.

Date Text
2022-10-07 A creature can never be in more than one sector. If Space Beleren is on the battlefield, another Space Beleren coming under a player’s control won’t affect any creature’s sector assignment.
2022-10-07 A creature that changes controllers maintains its sector assignment: its new controller can’t give it a new one.
2022-10-07 Any time Space Beleren is on the battlefield, the battlefield is divided into three sectors: alpha, beta, and gamma. All creatures will be assigned to one of the three sectors.
2022-10-07 As soon as there are no permanents with space sculptor on the battlefield, all sector assignments are lost. Notably, this means that if Space Beleren’s +1 ability has been activated earlier in the turn, creatures are no longer restricted from blocking, so watch out! If another (or the same) Space Beleren returns to the battlefield, creatures on the battlefield at that time will once again be assigned to sectors, but their new sector assignments are not influenced by any previous sector assignments they may have had.
2022-10-07 For the last two abilities, you choose the sector as the ability resolves.
2022-10-07 Sector assignment isn’t copiable. If a creature enters the battlefield as a copy of a creature in alpha sector, for example, its controller may assign it to any sector.
2022-10-07 The sectors are essentially designations that change how Space Beleren’s other abilities will affect creatures on the battlefield. The sectors have no other effect on gameplay. Specifically, unless Space Beleren’s first loyalty ability has been activated, sector assignments have no effect on combat. A creature in one sector can block an attacking creature in another sector.
2022-10-07 While Space Beleren is on the battlefield, any time there are creatures on the battlefield that aren’t assigned to a sector, those creatures are assigned to a sector by their controllers as a state-based action. First, all players who don’t control a Space Beleren (or another permanent with space sculptor, but come on) in turn order assign their creatures. Then all players who do control a Space Beleren in turn order assign their creatures.
