Text of card

On your next upkeep after Hazezon is put into play, put * token Sand Warriors into play, where * is the number of lands under your control. Treat the Warriors as 1/1 white, green, and red creatures. If Hazezon leaves play, all Sand Warriors are also removed from game.

Card Pros

Card Advantage: Hazezon Tamar Mtg is a paramount in generating card advantage. With his unique ability, this legendary creature allows you to create Sand Warrior creature tokens on your next upkeep, corresponding to the number of lands you control. This leads to great card advantage, permitting you to flood the battlefield with numerous tokens while maintaining your hand cards.

Resource Acceleration: One of the crucial strengths of Hazezon Tamar is its potential for resource acceleration. By creating multiple tokens equivalent to the number of lands you control, Hazezon offers a diverse range of options for offensive and defensive plays. Also, these Sand Warrior tokens aren’t just creatures but great resources that can be leveraged in various strategic ways to boost your game.

Instant Speed: Though Hazezon Tamar does not provide instant speed, its delayed trigger compensates for this. The advantage is that the Sand Warrior tokens are spawned during your next upkeep, granting time for you to protect Hazezon or develop your board state around these tokens. This delay essentially gives you flexibility and strategic edge in planning for the right moves during the gameplay.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: Hazezon Tamar’s abilities require substantial trade-offs. Its triggered ability creates a certain time delay. Its ability triggers upon leaving the battlefield, not upon entering, thus resulting in a gap which can pose a serious disadvantage, especially if you have scarce resources at your disposal.

Specific Mana Cost: Hazezon Tamar’s mana cost is quite specific. It revolves around three distinct colors, namely green, red and white, otherwise known as the Naya colors. If your deck lacks these colors, then it may be a struggle to summon Hazezon Tamar.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: Hazezon Tamar commands a steep mana cost. Tapping into seven mana resources – one green, one red, one white and four of any color – makes it a high-price card to play. This cost can sometimes prove prohibitive and hinder the flow of your game as other options may offer more potency.

Reasons to Include Hazezon Tamar in Your Collection

Versatility: Hazezon Tamar is a unique figure, ideal for multiple deck styles, particularly those that thrive on creature presence and additional mana sources.

Combo Potential: The Sand Warrior tokens that Hazezon Tamar generates can be exploited to trigger abilities or reinforce strategies that gain from creatures entering the battlefield.

Meta-Relevance: If encountering a meta filled with creature-centric or control strategies, the creature advantage and mana ramp provided by Hazezon Tamar could prove to be quite beneficial.

How to Beat

Hazezon Tamar is a powerful card in Magic: The Gathering. It brings potent advantages, but overcoming it is feasible. One viable strategy is eliminating Hazezon before his sand warrior tokens arrive. Remember, Hazezon’s sand warriors vanish when he leaves the battlefield. This strategy makes instant-speed removal or counter-magic elements critical.

Mass creature removal cards offer another solution. Cards like Wrath of God, with its ability to destroy all creatures, can sweep away Hazezon’s sand warriors. It’s crucial, however, to ensure your deck includes enough of these board wipes to consistently draw them when facing Hazezon. Output disruption and hand disruption cards are also useful. Making Hazezon’s controller discard the card before playing or interrupting the flow of their sand warriors can also lead to success.

Conclusively, while Hazezon Tamar presents significant strengths in MTG battles, careful strategy, precise card selection, and a thorough understanding of the game mechanics can help you prevail against this formidable card.

Cards like Hazezon Tamar

Considering the exceptional attributes of Hazezon Tamar in the MTG universe, it shares similar features with certain prominent cards. Verdant Force, distinctively, is a striking match as both have a knack for populating the battlefield with tokens. That said, Hazezon Tamar trumps Verdant Force by offering advantages of additional Land type and specific timing on token generation.

Delving further, Prossh, Skyraider of Kher, serves as another mirror for Hazezon Tamar. Both cards are commanders that produce tokens questioning a player’s mana base or sacrifice mechanics. Nonetheless, where Hazezon Tamar shines is the ability to produce a massive token wave creating an impending threat perception, overshadowing Prossh’s one-time token bonus.

Lastly, taking a closer look at another similar MTG card – Rhys the Redeemed. Rhys offers a more efficient and cost-effective approach to token generation but lacks the burst potential of Hazezon Tamar.

Summarizing, Hazezon Tamar holds a distinguished position among token generator cards in Magic: The Gathering, with its unique mechanics, adaptability, and the suspense it creates on the field.

DateText
2009-10-01 Only Sand Warriors that are actually on the battlefield when Hazezon Tamar leaves the battlefield are affected when its second ability resolves. If Hazezon leaves the battlefield after the delayed triggered ability created by its first ability triggers but before that ability resolves, its second ability triggers and resolves first, then the Sand Warriors are put on the battlefield. Those Sand Warriors will remain on the battlefield indefinitely.
2009-10-01 The first ability creates a delayed triggered ability that triggers at the beginning of your next upkeep. It doesn’t matter who controls Hazezon Tamar at that time, or even if it’s on the battlefield. The player who put Hazezon onto the battlefield gets the Sand Warriors.
2009-10-01 When Hazezon Tamar’s second ability resolves, all permanents with both the Sand and Warrior creature types are exiled, not just the Sand Warrior creature tokens it created. Permanents that have just one of those types are unaffected.
