Text of card

Slurrk, All-Ingesting enters the battlefield with five +1/+1 counters on it. Whenever Slurrk or another creature you control dies, if it had a +1/+1 counter on it, put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control that has a +1/+1 counter on it. Partner (You can have two commanders if both have partner.)

Card Pros

Card Advantage: Slurrk All-Ingesting can contribute significantly to card advantage. Its presence on the battlefield often requires an immediate answer from opponents, leading them to use their removal spells or resources. This attrition battle can leave you in a strong position with more cards in hand relative to your opponent.

Resource Acceleration: As a large creature in the game, Slurrk can be a catalyst for ramp strategies. While it doesn’t directly produce mana or resources, its formidable size can quickly close games. This puts indirect pressure on opponents, often forcing them to divert resources to deal with it, which can accelerate your board dominance as they fall behind.

Instant Speed: Although Slurrk All-Ingesting doesn’t operate at instant speed itself, its mere presence tends to shape the pace of the game. Opponents might hold back their instant-speed interaction in anticipation of dealing with Slurrk, which could provide you with openings to resolve other important spells while they’re preoccupied.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: Slurrk All-Ingesting demands that you sacrifice another creature when it enters the battlefield. This can be particularly taxing when your board presence is already low, effectively forcing you to make unfavorable trades or lose momentum.

Specific Mana Cost: This card comes with a requirement of both green and colorless mana, which restricts its smooth integration into multicolored decks. Players running a tight mana base might find it challenging to consistently cast Slurrk on curve.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: Requiring a total of five mana to cast, this card can be a tough play in the early game. Considering the depth of options available, there may be alternative, lower-cost creatures that provide similar or better value without the stringent costs associated with Slurrk.

Reasons to Include in Your Collection

Versatility: Slurrk All-Ingesting slips easily into multiple deck styles, thriving in environments that capitalize on +1/+1 counters or creature-based synergies. Its adaptability makes it a seamless addition to various strategies, especially those looking to amplify the power of their creatures on the battlefield.

Combo Potential: Slurrk’s potential to exponentially grow itself and other creatures with +1/+1 counters means it can be a linchpin in powerful combos. It pairs particularly well with cards that have proliferate abilities or with mechanics that double the number of counters on a creature, setting the stage for game-winning plays.

Meta-Relevance: Given its ability to become a significant threat if left unchecked, Slurrk All-Ingesting can hold its own in the ever-shifting MTG meta. It matches up effectively against decks that struggle to deal with rapidly scaling creatures, making it a valuable asset in the right metagame conditions.

How to beat

Slurrk, All-Ingesting is an intriguing addition to the world of Magic: The Gathering, bringing a unique challenge to the battlefield. This legendary creature lures opponents into a battle they can’t easily avoid, thanks to its lure ability, compelling creatures to block if able. When facing Slurrk, it’s crucial to manage the board carefully, employing removal spells or abilities that can neutralize this threat without engaging it directly in combat.

Utilize cards with exile effects or forced sacrifice to circumvent Slurrk’s lure ability. Tapping mechanisms or altering combat phases with spells like Sleep or Reconnaissance Mission can also provide respite from this voracious creature. Effective strategies against Slurrk often involve outpacing it with aggressive strategies or controlling the board until you can safely handle this monstrous threat without falling victim to its engulfing presence on the field.

Ultimately, preparation and adaptability are key when devising a plan to overcome Slurrk, ensuring it doesn’t consume your forces and grow out of control. Astute players will find ways to turn Slurrk’s strength into a weakness, using it to their advantage while maintaining the upper hand in deck strategies within Magic: The Gathering.

Cards like Slurrk, All-Ingesting

Slurrk All-Ingesting is a unique creature card that offers players a distinct blend of resilience and power accumulation. This card has echoes of other +1/+1 counter-centric cards in MTG like Managorger Hydra, which also increases in strength whenever a player casts a spell. However, Slurrk All-Ingesting stands out by turning any creature that Slurrk battles into a growth opportunity, regardless of who cast the spell.

Another card worthy of comparison is the Primordial Hydra, which doubles its +1/+1 counters each upkeep, potentially growing to an overwhelming threat. Yet, unlike Slurrk, it doesn’t offer the same creature-absorbing aspect, which can pivot the dynamics of the battlefield. Verdurous Gearhulk is a card that provides an immediate impact, spreading +1/+1 counters among creatures as it enters the battlefield. While the immediacy is an advantage, Verse Gearhulk’s power boost is a one-time event, in contrast to Slurrk’s ongoing growth potential.

Pondering these cards together, Slurrk All-Ingesting holds its ground in the MTG universe for those keen on a strategy that continuously enhances their creature’s might through combat and spellcasting, making it a formidable force as the game progresses.

DateText
2020-11-10 An effect that checks whether you control your commander is satisfied if you control one or both of your two commanders.
2020-11-10 Both commanders start in the command zone, and the remaining 98 cards (or 58 cards in a Commander Draft game) of your deck are shuffled to become your library.
2020-11-10 If something refers to your commander while you have two commanders, it refers to one of them of your choice. If you are instructed to perform an action on your commander (e.g. put it from the command zone into your hand due to Command Beacon), you choose one of your commanders at the time the effect happens.
2020-11-10 If your Commander deck has two commanders, you can only include cards whose own color identities are also found in your commanders' combined color identities. If Falthis and Kediss are your commanders, your deck may contain cards with black and/or red in their color identity, but not cards with green, white, or blue.
2020-11-10 Once the game begins, your two commanders are tracked separately. If you cast one, you won't have to pay an additional the first time you cast the other. A player loses the game after having been dealt 21 damage from any one of them, not from both of them combined.
2020-11-10 To have two commanders, both must have the partner ability as the game begins. Losing the ability during the game doesn't cause either to cease to be your commander.
2020-11-10 You can choose two commanders with partner that are the same color or colors. In Commander Draft, you can even choose two of the same commander with partner if you drafted them. If you do this, make sure you keep the number of times you've cast each from the command zone clear for "commander tax" purposes.
